I've got an idea...leave it like it is, I've never seen a convertible Seadoo........

I wouldn't pay for a hull, period. The meat has been rendered from the bone, now throw the bone to the guy who wants it, he's saving you the leg work of cutting it or hauling it to the dump.

Cool, at $250 you can't go wrong, I love seeing these X4s restored.

That's what I would do for sure. The westside powersports boys will have what you need to get on the water.

How long was this thing sitting in a flood? I'd wonder about water in the electronics and engine. I guess if it was up in a tree it probably dried somewhat.

I think he said he found it up in a tree like two days later. Engine fired up and ran so I'm thinking the electronics on it are still good.

My dad said to mount a bicycle seat on it and go ride lol!!!

Damn bro! When I go to CHI I stay right near the Elgin commons, I have fam up there... if you want it bad enough and can get it EVENTUALLY, I may be able to have someone grab it for you and hold it til you can arrange a transport...let me know..

So, spx787 if you took EVERY inner piece and used an exterior hull, you use the title to the HULL for registration, right? Just curious, because mine is somewhat of a Frankenstein (my spx) and I got $h1t from a friend bc my "numbers" don't match my hull...

I save the big scrap pieces of shrink wrap I cut from under the belly bands on big cruisers, those will wrap a ski easily I have plenty of outside storage space left if it helps someone to hold onto it for a while. I'd go over and get it but I'm slammed again with people that put off winterizing till the last minute and here it is snowing all day and below freezing for the next ten days.

Only problem is, I don't know when or how I'd get up there to get it. I wouldn't want to burden your family with having to store it. I appreciate it though!

I believe you use the hull vin for registration. Subsequently, I did receive a title with this SPX but the hull is junk so not sure what good it is lol!

The vin numbers are just on with pop rivets. One under the gas tank and the rear one under the tie down ring. There is also that white one on the back, but it is just printed and faded. If you find a decent hull, consider swapping the plates. Technically I am sure this is not right, but you do own it and morally I don't see the problem.

I would never do such a thing

*fingers crossed behind back*

wow small world, I have about 50 extended family, Elgin, Plainfield, Kankakee, Wilmington, and in the city. But I ONLY go up there in the summer... no way I'm going from December to May.

not legal and shouldn't even be suggested

So I'm assuming the metallic-like sticker on the mag cover has the HIN on it? Mines faded/rusted/painted over so I can't read it

i don't think I've ever seen a HIN on an engine, engines are kind of designed to interchange.

The engine serial number does tie back to the HIN, I think. My dealer told me I could give them a HIN from a 95 Limited I got and they could tell me if it shipped with a X engine or not. They can print a birth certificate of sorts.

I would like to see the "in the tree" picture.

Sounds like you can do most of the operational checks before getting a new hull.

Take above advice: do not mess with moving around HIN/SN. Number on MAG cover is engine SN; I would like to see a cross-list of engine SN to original product installation, anyone seen one?

OK, I know it was a bad idea. For those few in this thread that don't know, the MPEM may have the original motor SN in it. But that assumes the original MPEM is in it. That is the thing, these skis now have so may parts from so many other skis, the title thing is kind of muddy. Honestly, guys do this sort of stuff all the time with trailers that they don't get titles on. They claim they are homemade and get new titles. But I do get it that the hull is king in the title thing. AND I was not advocating getting a stolen hull and switch the plates. Anyway, I was wrong to say it. End of story.

Yeah, your title is no good unless it matches the number on your hull. Nothing else counts as engines get swapped all the time although some states go through the trouble of tracking numbers off motors but that's for outboards mostly, I think. Perhaps it depends on your state, most of my motors are one made off parts from several, no way numbers are gonna match and most are so old the numbers were never synchronized anyway.

It's not like these are rare vintage matching numbers collectible corvettes or something.... :)

I say love the one you're with. That said, I'd never buy something I suspected was stolen npr would I want my fingerprints on it.

Yeah, this particular one was found instead of stolen I guess, still I wouldn't want anything to do with it unless it has passed through a law enforcement agency auction or something like that.

Come to think of it, law enforcement agencies auction off unclaimed stuff all the time, don't they? I know I've bought stuff that way before.
