RXX factory carb settings

1Macgyger- I love the first class job you did on that engine. I can't wait to hear how it runs for you and what the EGT's look like.

I had a few dramas running on 1 cyl at idle but got that sorted in another thread, turned out to be a tini adjustment on the mechanical carb linkage.

I had to work Saturday morning so the ski came to work and straight to the river.

I finally got out to start the run in yesterday afternoon after work, EGTs worked great except for a minor hickup where one sensor probe popped out of its hole (I didnt want to over tighten the aluminium fitting or its pull the engine out for re-welding) nipped it up and all good.

Not bad for 'winter' here:thumbsup:

It was a little boring riding around at low rpm for 2 hours but all part of the master plan.
That thing loves to rev, tini blip on the throttle and it jumps to 6k rpm, i cant wait to be able to pin it and hang on!!

Ill get some GoPro 1st person view next time I go out, the EGT gauge is really easy to read but a bit hard to see the backlight colour (blue/red) in the sun. Given that, ill change it to Fahrenheit as 1000degF is easier as a quick visual than 538degC

Looks like a Holden Ute.
Too bad we cant get those here in the states.

Oh man, don't even get me started on some Aussie Iron I would love to have. Their early Ford Falcon XBGT's are sooo cool. The last two Holdens to come state side that I love are the Monaro and the Commodore , or as we know them the Pontiac GTO and the Pontiac G8. Both cars are total sleepers especially the G8. The G8 GXP is a total Euro Killer (BMW's etc...) with the 6.2L with a mere 415 HP, basically a Vette wrapped in a 4 door sedan with less than 2K built. The G8 was to be offered in a Sport Wagon and the Sport truck, like Mcgyvers ride but it never happened here. Oh man you guys are making my jealous this week. Sorry guys I love cars. So enough with the RXX pics, how about you show case the blue beast.

Racerxxx, I share the same passion for foreign and unique cars.
I love the G8 and wanted one but the fact that Pontiac is dead really put that idea to rest.
We should start a "car" thread.
And I agree on the other pics, the RXX is beautiful, but show us more of the car!

Glad you guys like it, i love it- and its not bad for my work ute

Correct, it an '08 Holden VE SS ute with the 6L Chev V8. Im surprised they never sold the Aussie 'pickups' over there, they did sell the higher spec ones in England.

Am I the only one who noticed his license plate is the same as his username??? :)
This is a nickname a mate gave me years ago, after he passed away a bunch of friends bought me the plates for my birthday.

A few more photos as requested:

Ive been having an issue with water slowly leaking into the hull and cavitation on the holeshot.
The RXX doesnt have bailer tubes so it relies on a bilge pump which isnt really as effective for scavenging water.

Im pretty sure it was just a small leak through the carbon seal so out with the old and in with the... older.
Ive put it back to the bearing carrier system from the older models which should give a much better seal.

The hose is HD sandblasting hose, very strong and heavy wall but still has a bit of flex. If it works well ill do both in the boat as well.

Nice work. All the X4 race boats are done that way. I know you will keep up with the shot of grease before rinsing after those salt rides.

I thought our Skat drive shafts were fatter though? I've read that there was a drive shaft update. Perhaps that 1 of 3 that made it to your country never got the update?

We ordered the seal and bearing carrier from the 98 XP (947) which had the matching driveshaft size, there was a smaller size on the earlier models that we avoided for that reason

Im searching for the factory carb settings for the 2001 RXX
I have the jet sizes, just need the Hi and Low turns from closed
any help would be appreciated

This is where I now am but I can't even find the jet sizes online. I hope to assemble my twin piper next week and I want to get it just right.

What did you ever decide on for the stock RXX? I am the second one in this engine so I don't want to be living with some wrong decision the last guy made. Thanks in advance and how is yours running?

Mine is running great, ill finish the run in on the new motor next weekend then the first race of the season is the week after.
I think we figured out the stock setting was 1.5 turns on the low and .5 turn on the high. I now have the EGT setup so I can fine tune it. I've also switched it to Avgas (100-102 octane), last time I went out it was getting slightly too hot at higher revs so before next week ill richen up the high speed jet .5 of a turn and see what numbers it hits

My personal tow vehicle is an El Camino with Moog rear cargo springs and a rear anti-swaybar.

I'm convinced there's a pickup truck conspiracy currently in progress here in the US, we may as well be living in Cuba!:

I'm told 1000F is about the safe limit, the max the gauge read was almost 1100 from memory so a touch more fuel will cool it down

OK that makes sense and sounds safe. My 787 falls off at 1115 deg. just for a reference. When I hold 1030-1080ish at wot I feel reel good about it.

How far are your probes from the cylinders, I was told to put them 50mm or 2" which landed them in the exhaust port right before the pipe starts, but after I found paperwork saying 150mm or 6" which would be in the pipe so I may be reading it hotter than it really is

Mine are close to the cylinders. Maybe like a thumb's width.

Ok good, sounds like the same spot as mine, if you look on the previous page where the engine is in pieces and the cylinders are upside down you can see the welded fittings where they mount.
I hope 1200 is the limit because it runs great as it is but u don't want to lean it out. The plugs are a nice light brown the way it's set currently

After finding a photo of the manifold I'm giving temps from I can see that it is further away than a "thumb's width"

The UL guys measure theirs 3.92" from the piston skirt, apparently.

"A reading on an EGT of 1100 to 1200 degrees F should give a nice tan coloured spark plug. Lower readings should give darker colours while higher readings grey/white colours."
