were would you buy a new sc rotax motor from? my local seadoo dealer is trying to talk me into a motor from sbt or something like that. i think ive read bad things about them. is there a better place to get one?

DONT ever buy a 4tec from SBT. Ive looked into it befor. sbt uses there own parts to rebuild the motor witch includes there cast pistons. OEM SC motor built buy seadoo use forged pistion. What wrong with your motor? Im going to guess and say droped a valve or put a rod through the block?

sc blew up with rivas metal clutch washers, sent the gear and needle bearings threw the motor. got about ten of the needles out through the front oil seave. but im going to take the whole motor out. the back gear has a nice wear spot in it. im hoping that the gear on the crankshaft isn't screwed. so i should buy a motor directly from seadoo?

your best bet would be to pull the head and see what the damage. most people that have the washers go just clean the junk out replace both oil pump and your go to go. VERY common problem

good point. but if there was anything big enuff to get into the head wouldn't the oil seaves and the filter catch it?

You might be ok that why you need to pull the head witch you can do with the motor still in but is easyer if you remove it, If you do remaove it youll need to replace the head bolts. How long was it running for after the failer? If you get all the washer and bearing out you should be ok. You can also fing a shop with a scope to see in the cylinder for damage. It a little camera you put through the spark pluge hole to check the valves and cylinders for damage.

i checked the cylinder walls i got one of those cameras from lowes. they are ok. and compression, checked out ok. i would say i rode it for an hour after it happened. at least the riva washers are still intact. i will have the local mechanic pull the head to.

do you know if you got all the bearing parts out? It sounds like your motor will be fine. If everything looks good when you pull the head, then just clean and flush the oiling system and replace both oil pumps. worst case you have to rebuild the motor witch is ALOT cheaper then buying a new motor. Did you get and oil or overheat light come on??? you can also get a shop manual and pull the head yourself there very detailed and it will save you alot of money.

all i was able to pull out was about 10 needle bearings and a bunch of little fragments from the gear. the local mechanic had the pump and drive shaft out yesterday, he was going to try and pull the back cover off the motor. i told him to go ahead and just pull the whole motor and replace both oil pumps.

Ya most often damage is done when the the little pieces get in the oil pumps, They will take out the pumps then the motor will sieze. As long as that hasent happend you should be good, Jus besure to clean the oil system out really good. I dont think youll need to replace the motor witch is a good thing cause a new one will set you back about $5000. Also i always tell people they should inspect the charger every 20-25 hr to be sure its good. another thing to keep in mind is if your rpms drop then most likely you will have a supercharger failure.

i talked to the mechanic and he had my motor out. he found the gear in four even pieces. thank god! but i will have to replace the stator assembly, fly wheel assembly, crankshaft sensor, starter double gear, and oil pump. when you said oil pump's (plural) meaning there is two vains that are to be replaced and the shaft and seals or is there more? Also still not clear on how anything could have gotten into the head. any debri would have had to go through the oil seave then through the oil filter. is there another way?
