Hi all :) new to this site and the world of skis. I have a 2000 rx millennium that i bought at the end of season last year. bought it with a fully rebuilt engine that was done by previous owner but was untested in water when i purchased it. i took it to my local jetworks center for a check over to make sure all is well and they said it was fine and everything was in good order and smooth. i have just run the ski in and yesterday was the first time i could open it up for longer than 2 seconds. she was running really well and pulling hard up to 60 mph. couple of hours later i come back to the shore and eased off the gas and it wouldnt idle and slowly died out. then re started and had a huge power loss and a slight spluttering at times. the revs dropping and sluggish throttle response. took the seat off to see any noticeable problems and what i think are air pipes had fallen off and water looks like it had gone inside. when i got it home i started back up and it sounds not rough as such but not how it should, and with a deeper noise. I thought a cylinder might of give up, as first cylinder gets hot and the other stays cold (ish) i think pressure test is needed.
Im not very handy or clued up about engines and only know basic stuff, but i am willing to learn. has any one got any idea what the problem could be if it could be simple problem or possibly new re-build :(
Many thanks
shay

Get us some photos of the "air pipes".

we can tell you the actual name, and hopefully see what's wrong.

It sounds like your ski went into limp mode.

Hi im sorry to sound like a complete newbie but i really am new to this. limp mode as in some kind of safety mode? at the bottom of the vts screen is a little red light that is on atm im not sure if its always been on or if its suppose to be on? why would the ski just go into limp or safety mode for no reason after running perfect for a few hours? many thanks

there's always a reason, at least 95% of the time, so don't assume it went into that mode for no reason. i'm still trying to figure out what these air pipes are so we need to start there and move forward

I think he's referring to the air intakes on the carbs. A millennium RX is a 2000 year model with the 951 carb motor. I didn't think those had a limp mode. It probably ingested water.

How long had the rebuild been done? Was it done with the break in process? Hopefully it was. And hopefully if it took on water you ran it enough to dry it out. 951s don't like water in them. But if one of the "air hoses" was for cooling water then you may have issues so get some pics for these guys. If you need help uploading just let us know.
