Rollover ?'s

So ive been wondering, after a roll over, why do you have to tilt the ski a certain way?

The sticker on the back I believe says to tip counter clockwise before starting. I would think this would keep water from being sucked in on the intake side of the ski.

Someone will let me know if I am wrong, but that is what the sticker says on the back of my 98 SPX

well if i havent misunderstood you, you talking about the intake under the ski, unless theres a magical hidden instake lol. if you are talking about the intake under the ski. why must you tilt it that certain way (counter-clockwise)

Sorry, intake for the carbs. Don't need water ingested into the motor.

I am assuming that is why the counter-clockwise tilt, AFTER the ski has been righted.

If I remember right, on my 98XPL, there was a sticker that was upside down, telling which way to turn when the ski was upside down in the water!

Anyway, don't know if you have that sticker on the back of your ski or not.

The exhaust is water cooled as well as the engine. Therefore, there is always water in the exhaust. When the engine is not running there is no pressure to keep the water from entering the engine if it is turn back over in the incorrect direction.

So, if you don't turn it over the right way, then water will enter the intake, because of lack of pressure?

If the rotary valve is turning when starting, thus opening, wouldn't it, suck water in if the carbs were underwater, or had water resting on the rotary? Thus, it would not start? I guess I am confused.

think it depends on model of ski, location of the airbox/carbs. your 580/650/720 set-ups, I'd think, from look'n at back, you'd roll it clockwise, where the, say 951 XP, you'd roll it c/c.

I think the issue is water sitting in the exhaust pipe will roll back into the cylinders/crankcase if rolled clockwise. It will depend on which side exhaust is but on my 97 spx, it needs to go CCW. If you look at it and think about it, it makes sense (thats what I had to do).

What's funny is on the new engine's its obviously not as important becasue my manual and the DVD both say that you can roll it over either way safely.
