rings gone

I have a 2000 951 fuel injection with only 46 hours number 1 cylinder bottom ring gone-- top ring got between head and piston. number 2 cylinder bottom ring is gone maybe 1 inch of it left-- top ring ok. question????? what caused this---- lack of oil--- over heating. going to build topend dont want this to happen again.

Defective ring.

Overstretched when installed, and had a small crack.

Too small of an end gap.

The cyl port edges are sharp and it caught.

Hard to say without seeing the engine.
