I have two closed loop 4tecs and plan on taking them on vacation over the 4th to South Carolina and riding them on the inter coastal water way & maybe in the ocean if its some what calm. People in Ohio tell me not to ride them salt water...well i bought the skis to have fun in all the ways i can. I bought 2 cans of xp-s anticorrosif spray and plan to wash them off at the car wash after each ride. Is there anything else i should be doing besides not riding them in salt water...lol. thanks for any suggestions.

Flush them out with fresh water after every ride. By that I mean hook up a hose and run them for a minute like that to flush out any leftover saltwater in the exhaust and intercooler if your skis are supercharged.

Yes, they are supercharged and i will flush them out with the hose. Just picked up my 04 from a dealer who rebuilt the supercharger. I told him i was taking them south and would be in salt water, he looked at me and said that if they were his he wouldn't ride them salt water, and that i should rent skis down there. Not at $80 per hour i told him.

I'm from Ohio as well.

Anytime I can take my own skis that is what I am doing.

As noted, flush the engine and wash the hull and components and have fun....

i ride in nothing but salt water.. do not run the fresh water flush for longer then 3 minutes or so.. make sure you DO NOT forget engine on, water on... water off, engine off.. after the waters off the ski give it a small burst of throttle to flush out any residual water in there... and then spray the engine bay with anti corrosion fluids.. some use WD40... i tend to stay away from wd40 as its flammable.. make sure you wash the ski nicely with soap and water afterwards and your done.. it doesnt seam like alot but after 6 hours on the water its hard to get the energy to take an hour to clean up the ski... just make sure you follow those steps and you will not have a problem.

Thanks for the info. I plan on taking care of them after each ride and having fun in the sun. In Ohio i ride at alum creek & buckeye lake, both are located in central Oh.

exactly what Matty said...
I ride in nothing but salt water also.. I stop by the DIY car wash on my way home from the ramp and clean the ski with high pressure soap and clean water.. only costs about $3.00 and it's dry by the time I get home.. then all I need to do is flush the motor and spray the engine compartment.. I'm all wrapped up in about 20mins.

It's name says it all, SEAdoo. With a close loop, why wouldn't you? Go have fun. Oh, I buy something called Salt Away to flush with. Might be worth looking into for that inter cooler. Ride 'um like you stole 'um!

Thanks, I will look into that salt away and i have anti-corrosive lubricant spray made by BRP, in my first post i spelled wrong i was looking at the french side of the can... lol. It's funny here in Ohio when you talk about salt water & jet skis, people act like your sending the ski to its death. Any way plan to have a great time and forget about work for a week. Thanks for all the advise, what a great internet site this is !

To the OP... I think your dealer doesn't know how to enjoy the Seadoo Life... Personally, i would ride my seadoo in fresh or salt water in any of my trips... Whats the point to take your seadoo with you if you not gonna ride it because someone "wouldn't ride them if were his"...

Look... I live in canada, riding my first season on lake ontario... I know, i know... No salt water... But if those seadoos were mine... For sure i'll ride them on salt water... Wash them off with fresh water like people above said and you are good..!!!M

Just get your flush adapter hose with you..!!!

Enjoy your days in ohio..!!!!!

I agree!

I've never ridden mine in salt water only because salt water is a long ways away from Michigan.

Use the anti-corrosive lubricant spray made by BRP or CRC 656 marine spray I perfer the brp its thicker. Before riding lift the seat and spray everything under it. The motor, hoses, everything give it a heavy coat. Then when your done riding use the salt-away with the mixing unit flush the ski and spray the ski and engine compartment real good then rinse. I have over 30 hours on my ski and most are from salt water and the engine and hoses look brand new.

Find something called fluid film.
Thats the best stuff out there....
Otherwise fresh water rinse and through spaying of anti corrosive.

But I doubt your one week salt adventure will cause your ski any hiccups
Happy riding. You may not like/be used to salt water spraying into your face though......

Yup! Excellent stuff! Mainly, soak the metal parts like the steering linkage, reverse linkage, pump bolts, nuts, studs, drive shaft, exhaust bolts, pto and I would soak the motor. I had no ill effects from soaking mine. Fresh grease in the trailer bearings and coat the rims, springs and wench parts.

I know is a somewhat older post but in searching "jet pump bearings" this morning (gotta love these search engines!) this thread came up so I thought I'd share my 2 cents... I live in Florida and ride exclusively in salt water... I bought my 2004 GTX SC new and currently have 175 hours on it.. My ski runs and looks brand new inside and out.. here is what I've done... I have religiously flushed the ski after every use for two minutes with Salt Eliminator after a through soap and water wash.. The SE hooks up to the flush/hose adaptor. 2 minutes leave about half of the salt eliminator still left which I then spray down the trailer with... The above is done on a day when the water was calm and I didn't get crazy and get water or waves on the ski to much.. For those days when I'm jumping waves and spraying water all over the place when I get home and the ski has cooled off I take both seats, tilt the trailer up and spray the entire engine compartment down with my hose... I mean everything for 5 minutes or so.. I then just leave the hose in the compartment and let it run for another 5 minutes or so and flush out every last grain of salt... when it finally drains I put it in the garage with the seats off and let it dry.. the next day I take the two plastic engine covers off, dry the residual water in the bolt depressions and thoroughly coat and spray every surface with the Bombardier BRP spray.. These ski's work fine in salt water and will last.. they will not do well if you have residual salt in the engine compartment.. when riding this salt will move around and eventually coat everything and will lead to problems.. As long as you thoroughly flush out both the jet pump via the adaptor and the entire engine compartment itself, then coat it all down with an oil based spray you will not have any issues in salt water..

They are meant to be ridden and enjoyed in or out of salt water!! We run in Chester River or Chesapeake Bay and always use Salt Away when flushing them and spray everything under the seat. HAVE A GREAT TIME
