Ok, I'm guessing it's right under my nose but I cannot locate the rectifier assembly on my 2000 GSX RFI. I looked in the shop manual and it talks about it but never shows or says where it is (or I just missed it). I looked in the rear electrical box and it isn't in there - only thing there is the starter relay/solenoid and 3 plug connectors, one of which is a 15a fuse. Anyone know where I find the rectifier?

Um I'm not 100% positive but on that ski I believe the rectifier is integral to the MPEM

Sorry, I should have been more clear - it is in fact integrated in the MPEM but only for the 947 engine, at least according to the shop manual. I have a 787 engine, which according to the manual indicates it's stand-alone but damned if I can find it.

I'm going to feel very foolish soon I think, lol. My ski does not have a front ebox. Only thing in the front is the mpem. I have a rear ebox, see the pic. Still cannot find the rectifier.

Holy cow, problem solved, I think. Please look at the pic and let me know if that is in fact the rectifier. It doesn't look like the stock ones I've seen but again, I've never owned one before and I don't know the history of this particular rig, perhaps this one is aftermarket and was relocated?

Anyway, it is located behind & below the rear electrical box, which I had to remove. At the bottom of the pic in the foreground is the top of the VTS box, for additional perspective. Unit looks pretty gnarly, so I'll take it out. Hopefully this might help someone else down the road.

Also, if I change it, should I consider moving it or is it ok where it was?

Thanks folks for all the input to help me find it!

that is where the rectifiers are located on the gsx rfi's behind the e box and mounts where the rear toe hook is. my 99 is the same.

Hey thanks for confirming. Seems like an odd place for it and it was a pain to get to. Could it/should it be relocated? In replacing it, does it matter what I get; meaning I had read about 'heavier duty' versions and although they cost more is it worth it? Thx

make sure you get a good one as rfi's are hard them and go out often. i got mine from osd parts which is a heavy duty one for a 4 tec but wired for an rfi.

i dont see why it couldnt be relocated as long as the wire harness reach the new location. if mine goes bad i will also check into that as well.
someone may chime in but i once saw a gtx rfi one mounted on the e box cover, the gsx rfi e-box cover looks like it has a place for it.

Cool bro, thanks for the info. It seems like it should be better protected and I'll be using it in salt water. I'll post if I decide to try and relocate it. Now would be the time since I'm pulling the engine for a full rebuild.
