I have a 1999 GTX RFI and have some questions about the Rave Valves? What are some symptoms if they aren't operating properly?

Thanks
Ted

Mine i notice very rough idle. Just clean them anyways, they are probably sticking. It's very easy to do, cleaning is the toughest part!

I just bought this ski a bit ago and it was fouling the rear plug. I checked everything (compression, spark, fuel) and was looking at the rave valve and the spring wasn't in right. I bought 2 new springs and made sure the rave valves moved smoothly and it seems to run better, but just wanted to know what symptoms I would have seen.

Loss of speed, bogging down and just overall poor performance do to carbon build up. Give them a good clean up and make sure you are using the proper oil.

They move freely and are clean, am using SeaDoo XP-S synthetic oil are there any better (Quicksilver synthetic pwc, amsoil)?

Ted

No..... the XP-S is the correct oil to use, have you been able to take your ski out after you have cleaned the RAVES?

ya if they are not opening you will top out around 40mph and won't go above about 5,000RPMS or less...

You guys were spot on, one of the springs wasn't in right, took them out and cleaning them and rode it today and had no problems, ran smooth all the way through the rev range. Hit 6800 rpm's and right at 50 on the GPS. I want to give a thanks to Seedooya and Seadoosnipe and everyone else who had input, I've owned boats for 15+ years but this is my first ski and this forum has been a wealth of knowledge. I'm a retired Marine who is a mechanic at a Naval Rework Facility in Pensacola and love to tinker. This is a picture of my ski, paid $2100 (1999 GTX RFI) and have found a few things that needed attention but with the input I've gotten so far it's been pretty easy.

Thanks again,
Ted
