Well I just got a new to me 2006 GTI SE 4Tec

I didnt water test it but we fired it up and I listened to it and all sounded good it has 34 hrs on it.

So I get her home and She wont start. The Dash lights up and I hear the click from the front but no start.

After about 10 pushes of the start button she fires up. Then she will continru to fire up for about 4-5 pushes then back to no start...

Ive never seen this problem. Have you and do you have any suggestions.

Sounds like the solenoid is going bad. You can hear it clicking... but it's not making the contact internally.

BUT... you could just pull all the cables, clean the ends, and put them back on. Sometimes you get a little corrosion on a loose bolt, and you can't get enough power to the starter.

Take off the starter solenoid and hold a (rubber handled) screw driver between the 2 terminals. If it starts first time doing this it's the solenoid. I had the same problem with my 2005 RXP and had to replace the solenoid. It's very easy and the parts not expensive.

yup- it the starter solenoid. My dealer is ordering me one for $37. Is it pretty simple to swap it out?

Technically its very easy....practically a little difficult. The solenoid is on the left hand side of the fuse boxes. Probably brown or black in colour and bolted to the fuse box frame by 2 bolts. These are a little difficult to get off because of lack of space but be patient and you will get them. Once you unbolt each side, unplug the solenoid, plug in the new one and fix on using the 2 bolts...Simples.

Nothing like a few months to update this. Well I replaced the part when the battery woas out of the boat so I didnt get to test it. until this past weekend

All is Good and she started every time!!!!

thanks

FYI- you need the shoulders and hands of a small child to get that dang solenoid back on.
