Hi guys new to this section as I've been playing with 2 strokes for most of my pwc history except for an aquatrax turbo a while back.
As I'm always looking for a project I found a 03 GTX supercharged for sale local for 1000 with a "blown cylinder" has 145 hours, super clean cosmetically. Says it sat for 14 mouths then he took it out last weekend and it ran great for a while then started smoking and lost power. Made it back to launch on its own.
Is this a good price for a builder? Are this real hard to rebuild? Anything I should know before jumping in?
Thanks guys, as always I look to you for advice!

Given the condition, I'd assume you need to rebuild the supercharger ($350 plus tax, if you do it yourself). I'd check the pump to make sure there's no water in the nose cone. If so, you'll probably need to rebuild it. If so, you can find aftermarket pumps for about US$500, but if you rebuild it from parts it can be close to that price. Good luck.

Hmm, could be a costly build, I just don't want to be upside down! Not that I'm planning to sell just doesn't feel good to finish all that work and know I could have just bought a running ski for less!! Thanks for the input!!

The 4-tec engine is a great engine. Very well proven in regards to performance and ability to go over 1000 hours and need nothing but oil changes.

That said, when it is broken, it cost MUCH more than the 2-strikes to repair.

You could easily invest a grand in the engine depending on what's wrong. If it is not running perfectly, Max I'd pay is $500.

You are off by a grand or more on the engine. I usually budget between $2k and 2.5K for a complete rebuild when the block is trashed. It adds up fast.

I offered him 500, I think anymore and I'll be upside down not counting my labor, I'll keep you posted!
Thanks for the help
