Ok, I put a new wear ring on a buddies 95 GTX and when he took it out he said it still kinda acted like it did when it had the bad wear ring. I drove it and sure enough, it's cavitating. So I pulled the pump last night and the wear ring is fine. The only thing I found is a piece of a stick lodged into one of the fins. I pulled it off and got to looking at the impeller again......
Which leads me to my question. What do you torque the impeller to when you reinstall it. I didn't use a torque wrench and didn't go crazy tight on it cause I thought I might hurt the bearings and rob horsepower. Reason I'm asking is cause the leading edge of the impeller sits about 1/8" past the leading edge of the wear ring. I was just wondering if that little gap is causing it to lose suction and cavitate. Thanks for the help!
