Impeller advice, please

Hi all. I am the 2nd owner of a 2007 Speedster 150 215HP. We took delivery in September and only got it out on the lakes in Colorado a few times before the season ended. The previous owner was in California. It has a few mods, including a BOV, intake, and impeller.

We came from a 2003 GTX Supercharged 185HP jetski, and I was hoping this Speedster would have similar acceleration. It doesn't. :(

The top speed is 3-4mph less than our jetski but the real disappointment is the thrust/torque at low/stopped speeds. The previous owner was really interested in top speed, and had changed out the impeller for that objective. Since I'm technically limited to 40mph on local lakes and I am a torque guy I think the impeller that is on there should be changed.

That current impeller (unknown specs) was chosen for sea-level top speed. I need a impeller for 5,500-7,000' altitude and want a strong hole-shot. I don't care if I take a hit on top speed.

Anybody got a recommendation for me? Thanks in advance! (There aren't many or any local Seadoo gurus here!)

MODS: Tried changing title to "impeller" - couldn't do it.

Don't worry about the semantics with prop/impeller... We know what you were asking.

Anyway... for a hole shot... there is only one impeller that stands out, and that is the Skat-Trak "Swirl" series. Look on their web site for the recommended impeller.

Anyway... the acceleration thing. The boat you just bought weighs around 1400 Lbs, and your GTX is around 900 Lbs. Sure, the boat has more HP, but it's 500 Lbs heavier, and there is probably triple the "wetted" area to push though the water. So... just doing the rough math in my head... you have 60% more weight, and only 30% more power. So, you have less "power to weight"... plus more drag. It should still be a fun ride, but even the newer 255 HP speedsters have a lower power to weight than your GTX. (assuming it's the LTD)

I know it's not what you wanted to hear... but I hope it explains things. The swirl impeller will help get you out of the hole faster.

Thanks a lot, Tony! I will definitely check out their impellers. I've searched but can't find a how-to for changing the impeller. Any special tools required or can anyone provide me a linky on how-to?
