Problem with reverse and VTS

Hi guys, just bought a 2005 RXP recently, I took it out and my reverse broke. I can put it in reverse but it gets stuck there. I can not put it back in forward unless i move the gate myself. I checked the plastic nut in the back everyone talks about and it seems to be intact. How do i know if the reverse cable is broken?
Also another problem is my VTS, it is set at the lowest point and I cant adjust it. How do I know if the trim motor is broken? And also where is it located? I cant seem to find it

You could have a broken cable but if you can engage the reverse, then not. Have someone work the lever while you watch it aft. Usually, the plastic nut breaks because of some build up. The on line parts catalogue could help you find the VTS. A online shop manual would help you too..
