I'll stress one more time that time on the water and each new experience will help educate and prepare you for potential incidences.
You can't learn much about your ski driving slow in a straight line, except to slowly increase your comfort level, the more opportunities you take to practice and learn maneuvers around obstacles, when and how quickly to turn, pulling up to other ski's, docking, etc, are all going to help protect you from harm when it presents itself. Make sure you and your other PWC learn some basic hand signals, (slow, stop, turn around, 5-0, etc) and have some fun out there.
