Prime fuel lines?

Just replaced all my old gray fuel lines, with automotive 50psi line. Getting ready to put my carbs back in. How difficult will it be to start this machine, now that all the fuel lines are empty?

What is the trick to fire this engine up?
 
The easiest way is to just pull the choke out all the way and crank. Another way is to put a rag over the carbs or a plastic bag, which will create a vaccum. it should take no longer than 3-5 sec to prime them. Make sure while you do this, put the plugs on the grounding post to prevent spark while doing this. you will have to remove the airbox to get to the carbs.

Pulling the choke out all the way is usually what i do for a cold start, so nothing special then?

I was also thinking of pouring a little fuel in the plug holes, just to fire the engine for a few seconds, maybe pulling some fuel through?
 
Nothing special.

If it makes you fill better... but a little fuel down the carbs. I don't like putting fuel down the plug holes since it could foul the plugs, and make it take longer to start than just cranking it from dry.
 
Using a coffee shop spoon of premix gas in each plug hole will give you the lube and the fire, once the pulse line goes about 10 times it will run like it used to, be watchful for any leaks - air leaks make it run away - it is easy for the base gasket to slip to the side the first time you do carb service, we all did it at least once.

The gasket from the carb to the motor?
 
I have a 96 XP and a 97 Challenger, both with 787 engines. I have never seen a carb-to-manifold gasket on either.

Is there supposed to be one?

I didn't notice one either, i will go check it out. How do they slip out of place anyways? Usually the gaskets are lined up with Bolt holes, I thought?
 
My GSX Limited had gaskets!

FYI if she dont prime right away make sure you didnt pinch the pulse line like me last week =) afte ri un pinched it, she only took few turn overs to get it primed and going
 
It is a black gasket about 2 or 3mm thick under each carb to the manifold/rv cover, the wiggling around with all the cables and such can push it around enough the bolt goes thru the big hole so you want to put something sticky but not like glue - I use a dab of grease.
