I recently bought a 95 speedster that had been abused bad and had really bad paint fade. Iv got some good polish(wizards) and a 7" polisher but keep going through wool bonnets like theres no end. What brand of bonnets have you guys been useing that are good? I dont have a problem spending some money on one but want it to last more than 10 minutes while polishing my boat.

Depends which brand your polisher is but if you can get the thick foam with almost like a scotchbright layer on the top surface it's not course as to scratch ur gel coat but should take the water deposits off. Or you can get that boat cleaner to take the deposits off first takes a bit of time but it works I'd say CLR may even work but unsure if it'll eat the gelcoat

Good luck !

The paint has bad distortion from sitting uncovered in the sun for the last 2 years. The wizard polish I have is working great I just keep going through wool bonits like crazy.

Just did mine today and did it by hand. Not sure why u are going through bonets. I used 3m compound, 3m finesse, then 3m wax. Yhe rear hatch was badly faded and it looks like new again. I buffed the wax out with a terry cloth bonet. It could be your just heating the wool up too much. The wizard wax may make it shine but do the three step 3m process i used and it will glow like new glass.

Check the type of bonnet you are using. I also did a 3 step process and only used 3 for my entire boat.

Try the synthetic wool type. they cost a bit more but they say they are for rubbing compound use. I use them to buff it with the 3m compound then a terry bonnet with the wax. Look into using buff magic. A few people here have had great results with it. I think next time i am going to try it.

This may sound crazy, but clorox cleanup works for removing stains from chalky white gelcoat. My seats were trashed, so I didn't have anything to worry about fading. It didn't seem to affect the decals either. The seats, ehhh, well, they were green, now they are white. It looks like seadoo didn't use dyed vinyl as I washed the green off like vinyl paint.

The floor can be cleaned with bleach and water. Be sure you take everything out of the ski storage though. I like to clean that area with bleach as well, it kills everything so you don't have to worry about stuff getting dirty when you store it.

Boats can be hard to buff because the bonnet is on a small patch most of the time, just because of the negative angles you have to work with. My buffer tended to sling more of the product off than it actually used. Check your compound's speed recommendations, if you have a single speed buffer, you may need to try the products recommended by Foster. Dr.Honda recommended 3M products as well. It is what I'm going to try next. :)

thank you for all the replies. All the interior needs redone so I did remove all the seats before starting. First thing I did was give the boat a good clorox bath. I will have to try the 3 step process. Were are you guys buying all the 3m products. I wanted buff magic before the wizards, I just couldnt find it anywere.

I personally use Schlegel pads which seem to last and give great results. Using the proper compounds makes a huge difference. You can't go wrong with 3m or Meguiar's/mirror glaze professional lines of cleaners, polishes, glaze's and wax's. If you're chewing up pads, most likely it's just your technique that will improve with time. A quality automotive paint store will have what you're looking for along with recommendations on the proper materials and use.

has anyone used the 3m restorer and wax. Im just wondering if its wize to buy something that goes on together just to skip a step??
