I recently ran my 657 with no oil.

I believe the engine seized a couple times.

I pulled the head and found damage to the rear cylinder.

When i pulled the cylinders off i found that the rear piston had stuck rings and was tough to pivot on the wrist pin.

I have plans to send the cylinders out to be bored...but do you guys think i will run into trouble with the wrist pin?

I don't want to send out the cylinders to find out that i have to replace the connecting rod too.

Any thoughts on this guys???

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you ran it without oil... and the wrist pin bearing is seized up (even slightly) then the crank bearings are roasted, and I will guarantee that it won't last long if you only do a top end.

You need to do a full rebuild.

You need to do a full rebuild.

So if the top end is going to cost about $300
What would the bottom end cost? i am guessing another $300

I think i might be better off doing a long block swap...what do you think?
I am leaning towards the long block because i remember doing a crank on a toyota motor when i was a kid...i had to put this wax stuff in between the crank and the bearings and torque it down to get the correct bearing sizes...it was torture!

if someone had running 657 out there that they wanted to sell i would love to hear it???

you'd be about a grand after shipping and everything for a replacement from SBT with a 1 year warranty. maybe less from SES but i don't know their pricing.

The guys above have it nailed.

Yes... you can get a crank, and hope that you don't need a rotary valve shaft too. But... when it's all said and done... you won't save much doing the "Rebuild" yourself... and you won't have a warranty. Just call SBT and get an engine (long block) shipped to you.

SBT is sending me a long block...should be here Friday

657 bored 1 over
Gasket Kit
Shipping Both ways
Degree Wheel for timing
$780

I spoke to SES and I would have gone with them, but there was a 4 week wait time...I think they cost about $700 but not sure about the gasket kit and the timing wheel

Does anyone have any warnings about the motor swap?
I don't have an alignment tool, so i am hoping that if i keep the shims the same, i will be ok.
