I removed the "hood" piece of the front of my 95 SPi to paint it (its very faded purple) and would like some advice on painting it. I was thinking sanding it smooth, then a coat of primer, purple, then clear. What do you think? I am also going to paint the mirror covering.

Painting..?

I'm not big into painting, unless it's the rooms of the house. But, I do know your going to need to use a good, high quality paint if you want it to stick and last.

Automotive paints are your best bet. Approach it like a car. You'll want to sand with 200 to 300 grit, primer, base coat, urethane and clear coat.

I hope this steers you in the right direction........

It is indeed hard to paint plastics compared to woods or cements. Anyway, just don't forget to clean it thoroughly, remove stains and oils. It is also advisable to sand the plastic parts but you must clean it again. Injection Molding Indiana
