Over Filling the Gas Tank

I filled up the gas tank today, and I waited until the hose nozzle clicked off.

When I opened the engine compartment, I could see a small fuel leak around the fuel baffle clamp. I tried to tighten the clamp, but the leak continued. I had to siphon the gas below the top of the fuel baffle.

This is obviously a dangerous issue.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Is there a sealant I can use that is gasoline resistant?
Do I not fill the gas tank all the way?

I just bought a used 3 wire fuel baffle on Ebay for a good price.

When I get the used baffle can I use some silicon inside the rubber boot to help seal the baffle or is silicon not good around gasoline?

Gas will eat "Raw" RTV. It's kind of OK on a gasket... but if it's in a place where it can soak in... it will swell, and die.

With that said... it shouldn't leak. SO... look for a crack. AND... don't top it off.

Thank You, Dr. Honda

I will not pull out the old baffle until the new baffle arrives.
If I find a crack is there a way to patch the crack without emptying or removing the tank?

If the crack is in the fuel baffle itself, and it's in the white ish part you can use a soldering iron to melt the plastic. Guys use came ties as filler rod. I shouldn't have to state this, but don't do it while its in the fuel tank and wait for it to dry out and in a week ventilated area. Google Seadoo fuel baffle fuse repair and you'll see what I mean.

I bought a used baffle my old baffle was fried.
I will get the used baffle in a couple of days.
I am hoping the leak is in the old baffle.

You are right on with the ventilation comment. Not only the issue of an explosion but I have been dealing with a headache all day from sticking my head in the engine compartment, with fuel leaking, and the boat was outside.
