Just like in our gsx resto/mod thread, this thread is our past and present x4 projects. Instead of having multiple threads we are condensing our threads into categories hence the x4 section.

Here are some of our past threads and their end result pic

There is alot of detailed pictures along the way of these. So anything we do from now on that has to do with a x4 will be slammed in this thread.

with exception to the ski in Post #4... all of your ski's make my x4's look like they were owned by homeless people.

Nice work !!!

Great looking ski's....i just bought a 96 xp....and it sits really low in the water...with no one on it..the rear deck is almost under water....my old one..(i bought a 96 xp brand new back in 96...sold it in 99)..wasnt as low....i know im heavier than i was back in 96....but it seems wander when at higher speeds.....even when trim is down....any suggestions??

Sounds like the hull is water logged. There is foam in between fiberglass in the bottom of the hull. Water may have gotten in the bottom and is weighing it down it will never dry either. Unless there is water coming in the hull and pooling.

there is no water pooling.its pretty dry inside...i have been reading about shimming the trim tabs...wonder if that will help with the handling??bring the nose down alittle....i still like to jump waves though....

I've seen bass boats do this waterlogging thing. They drill a couple holes in the back end of the hull and stand it up and it'll slowly drain out. I think they also put a heat source inside the hull too. Afterwards the patch the holes up with glass and resin and it ends up looking new.

Anyone else try this??.....Im not sure where the foam is in the hull...so..not sure where to drill...i think this would be easier..than losing weight..the gym just sucks...lol.....

The problem with that is the bass boat will have a stringer set up and have a good 6 inches to a foot of wood and foam material. In a seadoo there is 1-2 inches and the foam is the only thing in there, there is no wood at all. So the drilling procedure will not work. When a hull is water logged that is it,there is no fixing it. Your best bet is to either live with it or buy a good hull and transfer everything over. I have crushed many hulls and some of the foam is so saturated you could pick up a peice of small foam and squeze a few ounces of water out of it. So if you have the bottom completely saturated that could be 10 gallons of water or 80 extra lbs.

Never ever drill into the hull to add things, this will create a crevis for the water to drain into and will cause the waterlogging

Oh and for the location of the foam i am talking about it is directly under the entire bottom of the inside of your hull. If you remove the motor and take a grinder to the fiber glass you would quickly find foam under the layer of fiberglass that you see. I am not talking about the foam on the sides that is visible. The foam is sandwiched between fiberglass.

Ok....not gonna drill...maybe ill try to shim the trim tabs....that may bring the nose down alittle...i think Dr Honda said up to 1/8 after the screws...thanks for your help...any other suggestions would be appreciated...cheers!!!!

I think i found the problem of my nose being so high up and wandering at high speeds...my trim tabs seem to be thinner on the back edge....by at least a 1/8"...is that normal???
i tried to post a pic..but it wont let me....

So today we wanted to water test 2 projects we are working on. The newer 99 spx we got and a 97 xp. The 99 we just figured out our air leak last week so we went to put everything back togethor and we found a few issues. First the spark arrestor brack was the wrong one. The po had used a bracket off of a 650 and drilled in new holes to fit on the 787 so we put what is suppose to be there back.

Next it had many exhaust issues. We noticed the exhaust hose looked weird and upon feeling it you could tell it collapsed in a few places. So we pulled the hose off and when we did that we heard the baffles in the water box bouncing around. Also the small hose between the tuned pipe and water box was very soft. So we ended up replacing all those parts as well. I think since the baffles were broken that caused the hoses to fail

The waterbox with the regulator on it was the one with the broken baffles

The hose on the bottom had failed, when you squeeze it, it felt very flimsy and soft. When we looked inside we saw that the hose was seperating too.

With very little pressure the hose would completely collapse.

The smaller hose
The one on top was the blown out one

So after all of those issues we took them both to the lake and they ran great

Today I took one of our hump seats and wrapped it with regular black vinyl. I am planning on either putting this on a 99 spx with a silver seat stencil or a 97 spx and using a yellow stencil. Any way here it is

I have gotten to the point that I rarely leave any creases.

After pulling the cover off of this seat I now see how they put theses together. Where the crease is there is actually a slit that goes through the foam towards the back of the seat base. There is vinyl that is attached to the back side of the heat seal. It seams as though they feed the excess material throughslit and staple it to hold the crease tight. Then they wrap the seat like any other seat. If I was good at sewing I could mimic the seal and would just have a stitch insead of a seal. I would just sew a extra peice of material on the under side.
