Good lord get a PTO cover on that thing, you could have been killed. LOL. Looks as good as it sounds.

After a fairly insane spring/early summer that has taken up nearly two solid months of weekends (vacation, daughter graduating, various other time sucking things) we were finally able to hit the lake with the skis this weekend.. so the maiden post-restoration voyage happened.

Went off with only one small glitch, the VTS unit crapped out. I don't want to do a cheap fix, so i'm going to figure out whatever dies in the VTS unit, and subsequently fix the other twenty or so units I've got laying around broken.

Other than that, it went like stink, wheelies like a spark, turns on a dime thanks to the sponsons.. so much so that I think an UMI is pretty much a must now.. and stays good and planted in the water with the trim tabs and JD intake grate, but can hop itself out of the water on demand.. overall, a fairly good day! Burned a full tank, and hurt all over because I'm old.

Great news and I feel your pain. Finally got my 96' XP out Sunday for the first time after the break in that took two years. As fun as everyone says and still sore today.

Great to hear you dunked it. They are such wonderful machines. Best toys ever made and you did a great job on that one.

So I've had the ski out a few times, burned two-ish tanks through it. Strange issue popped up that I'm working through, though, is after going for a minute or so it will give a slight bog, then it wants to start popping and bogging and running really cruddy. It will progressively get worse over the next few minutes, eventually only going to idle speed before finally dying and not able to start. let her sit for an hour, and it'll start back up like it's ready to rock.. but there is no rocking.
I've tried without the rectifier hooked up, changed out the gas, ran with the fuel cap off, changed the MPEM, and changed out the stator with no difference in its performance. The only thing left to change is the coil (which I would have done had I not forgotten to grab a spare on our last outing) or the entire wiring harness. Somewhat frustrating, but such is life.. i'll get it whipped.
Now, a few pics, because words are stupid without pics.

It's those redneck racing rave adjusters you have on there. OK just kidding, I like your coil idea. A bad coil will often start acting up as it warms up.

I hope to get time to get it all sorted this weekend, just in time for one last ride at Jess's place before putting all the toys away for the year and start the off season rebuilds. First on the list is to get this seat to jettrim.. should have done that 6 months ago.
