Ok...So instead of taking my new ski out and enjoying it....

So I just got my 97 GTX and it actually had 67 hours on it. Been reading and reading and reading in this forum..... I can't appreciate this forum more now that I actually have a ski. My ski is in overall immaculate condition...just due to the mere fact of the lines.....it seems that Seadoo has created so much more effort in a fix, vs what they could have prevented us ALL from having to do. So instead of me taking my new(used) ski out and running it.....I don't even want to because of the slime CRAP that is in the fuel lines that just puts BLOB in the carb filters....I can't take the ski out with that on my mind.....I wouldn't even enjoy the ride because I know the carbs are just getting hammered with that sh*t until i changed them.....Thank GOD that I have found this forum and thanks to the wealth of knowledge, time and energy that everyone/anyone who has taken the time to post any info that will help a fellow Seadoo'er out

Ok...so here's what I want/need to do....

1. Change the grey "brilliant" seadoo lines...Still scratching my head as to who came up with the bright idea to put those in these skis

2. Clean carbs/fuel selector...everything fuel related...clean clean clean

3. Rebuild carbs....been reading up on it and looks like a must..I may as well do that if I'm going to do it right.....I'm just a bit uncertain because i'm afraid i'd mess up the low speed/high speed scews and jack my fuel mixture all up and finally get my carbs together, but not have the ski run right

4. Change the rubber foot mats that are riveted to the ski

5. Possibly check/change anything that is potentially related to the gas gauge not working...seems like it's a common problem....great thread on that...(another thing for me to do :))

6.

So in closing....If I didn't come accross this forum, I would have probably loaded my new ski and would be launching some waves by now.....But I, like everyone else in this forum, seem to be meticulous about our belongings....especially an investment valued like this, instead will take the time and work on my ski to ensure that it is done up right and sacrifice not riding until the weather gets warmer maybe in the spring. So I would like to honestly THANK everyone for contributing their knowledge/experiences/input on this forum....so here's a  to you. BUT if I ever meet/find the dumba$$ who's bright idea it was to install all these "Grey Fuel lines" on all of our skis.....making us take all of the Above extra steps.....I will be kicking him straight in the friggen Balls because I really wanted to take my new ski out and launch some waves and catch some air before winter:)

Ok I'm not sure if your being true, or sarcastic about owning a 10 Year old machine that's due for some needed upkeep and up dating at this point. It's kinda like buying a 10 year old car and complaining about replacing tires and brakes. Geeze, why should those things wear out anyway??? If your really concerned about tinkering with a 10 year old "toy"...go buy a new one. I owned a 97 Challenger...a dinosaur as such too...sold it and bought a new $30,000 Speedster...I still tinker, not with breakdowns, but with maintenance like cleaning and waxing...because that's what I enjoy doing,...Tinkering. If you want to not tinker anymore...get a rocking chair and go watch some birds on the back porch. That's just my personal opnion...

Karl,

Ofcourse I was being funny. I enjoy tinkering and am mechanically inclined. I would rather buy things used, infact I've never owned any of my vehicles or toys brand new.

I didn't mean to ruffle your feathers. I was actually acknowledging and thanking everyone and anyone for all the shared inormation because it will help my "tinkering" much easier.... I hope you realized that

I'm merely disappointed that I have to wait till Spring to ride the ski. That's all :). I didn't post this to give anyone else the wrong impression!

I'm not ruffled...I mentioned that I wasn't sure if you were "true or sarcastic". I see so many members complaining about their 10 -12 year old seadoo needing tinkering and they don't understanding the concept of owning a older machine and it will need some TLC. They will always need tinkering...that's the fun of it. :)

Karl

:agree: No doubt...i completely agree. I couldn't appreciate having a Seadoo more. I'm gonna start her upkeep now so i'm sure I'll have questions...I may pick your brain from time to time

Your in Florida...why wait till spring? It's summer here year round. Go fire it up.

Florida

Well, true...but I live in Jacksonville North Florida...it's like South Georgia basically. So we get the cold season as well. Wish I was further south! Are there ever any get togethers up here?

Heck in the great north...brrr...you just said it's too cold there...

Time to move south...it's in the high 70's here today.

If you want to plan it "we will come". It's easier to plan an event in your own area if your in charge...

what's this "cold season" you speak of? I ride year round in Atlanta so feel free to go for it in Jax:cheers:

Hydro turf?

I see your talking about replacing those wrinkled up rubber mats in the floor board. There have been many members, especially last year, that changed their mats with the Hydro-Turf.

I have it and love it. It's a great, soft feel under your feet and is very durable.

Look in the forum, under boats I think, it may be PWC. THere is a link to their store. I spoke with the owner and he's giving us a 15% discount if we purchase the complete kit with their logo on it.

If you choose to buy it by the sheet, you can take your old mats and place them on the new turf, you bought by the sheet (at a super reduced price) and cut them out yourself. Then, glue them down. I did mine and a coupld extra members sent me their layout, I did their's too.........

Check out the thread, there's pix too.........!

Ha! Atlanta is colder than Jax. You must look like Jim Carey in dumb and dumber when their snot was frozen while riding on the moped in the mountains in Colorado LOL

That's awesome Snipe! Actually that's what gave me the idea about changing it. I believe I came accross your post/thread about changing the mat. When I got the ski, i looked at the mat and thought.....that probably is not supposed to be like that! Luckily I came accross your post, so that's seems like a must to replace! Just an eye sore for me. Plus it seems that the turf that you used looks like it's more comfortable! So it's on my to-do list for the ski. :)

Good thing your in the great north, where it's super...chillie :ack:  uh ...like 70's, it will give you time to work on it.

LOL true...it's funny because we had slight cold spell last week and it was in the 50's and 60's, so I thought our summer days were doomed. So it's upper 70's today and I have my ski in pieces.....NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

It's a great day here in sw Florida...but a bit windy,so no boating till it calms down. I cooking beer can chicken on the grill instead. The down fall is every time I mention it to my friends, I get a house full...:ack:
