Hello All. I was rebuilding the carbs on my 1996 XP and both the cable and the spring on the Oil pump became detached. Normally I would just hook them up and be happy but my son also spun the oil pump arm around afew times. I can't tell from my Seadoo Manual...

Question: (Hard to put into words)

Is the Oil Pump an 'open and shut' (???) type of valve where it opens when the throttle is engaged and closes when released - but will only open so far and no further.

Or, if you spin the oil pump arm around a few times will the valve continue to open wider and wider?

Given it has spun around a few times, If I just realign the marks with it work as expected after I bleed the lines?

Thanks in advance.

OIL PUMP LEVER SPRING
The spring has a curl catch on the mid of the lever. the lever turns from 9 o'clock
and you should feel more pressure as you turn it to 6, then 3 o'clock, even tho
without the spring it will 360*. The oil throttle cable alignment marks at carb idle
is lever at 5:30, just adjust the nut. At 3 o'clock is a lug with the alignment mark
to align the lever and that lug is what the springs lower curl catches under. Bills86e

Great thanks. But let me make sure I understand, even if the lever has already turned 360 or futher, re-aligning the lever back to where the marks align with each other will make the oil pump (theoretically) work correctly.

Thanks.

I've never personally taken a Mikuni oil pump apart... but from the parts explosion... it looks like the internal variablillity is done via a cam system. So... you should be OK, even though it's been spun more than 360 deg.

With that said... you will still want to bleed the system, and get a visual that it's pumping.

When you bleed it,open the bleed screw and put some paper towel under the pump.I had to do a gtx ltd and it took about 20 mins. for the pump to bleed untill I was happy. The towel shows the oil.Hope this helps

LOL it shouldnt take more than 30 sec. to bleed it. I typically just let it sit for a while and let gravity fill the hoses, then bleed for 30 sec to make sure there isnt any air in the pump.

Minnetonka!
Yes about the bleed.I replaced everything and I just wanted to be happy I had oil.Have a look at my pistons in the off topic sect. Piston'broke. It was me being careful.:)
