Just purchased my first PWC . 1998 SEA-DOO GTX Limited. had it on the water for 1/2 hour. Oil light came on . Took it home, and discovered the oil line from the oil tank laying on the Hull floor. appears to have a brass fitting attached to it. My question Where does it go I assume a oil pump, and can it be hooked back up or am I looking at a major parts removal and a pump.

Thanks

So the brass fitting fell off. Based on my boat and ski, the brass fittings don't just fall off easily. Does the fitting look damaged? Do you have a picture you can post here?

oil lines falling off are bad cost people engines. take pic makes it much easier to help..

Hard to tell from the pic, but it looks like the elbow that attaches to the oil pump. Is there a white cylinder looking inline oil filter on the line that attaches to the elbow?

I would replace the oil pump with either a new one or a good used one from Minnetonka4me.

Same thing happened to me. Went out one morning and took the seat off to fine the bilge bottom covered in oil. Fortunately I had a spare oil pump. As above I would just replace it.

That's my plan . My only concern is the machine was running and I don't know how long the oil was not getting to the motor. I guess long enough to empty a full tank of oil .

That feeds the cylinders and not the crankcase. Do a compression test and see where you are. If the numbers are good then replace the pump and bleed the system...maybe add a little oil to the first tank of gas. The supply & return lines going to the crankcase should have oil in them even if the tank is empty.

jhjesse, this is a 951, not a 787. For the 787 you would be correct.

the 951 just squirts oil into the carb adapters.

I'd throw an oil pump on it, and add oil to the first tank.

You won't know if the engine is shot until you ride it, but I think oddly you'll be fine.

A compression test will tell you more if you have the tool, if not just go for a ride.

and yea, you'll have to pull that pipe to get to the oil pump.

if you don't have the special wrench for that, you pull the air box, carbs, then the pipe, then fix the pump, then on goes the pipe, then last is carbs.

you really won't know unless you use it again for a bit. Hope you have the 787 the 951 had enough issues in their own. That is weird the thing just broke off or popped off the oil pump. The damaged could be done and it will take little bit for it come apart on you. I am hoping you are ok, you are one of few that really did have a oil pump failure..

As other members have recommended. Fix the oil pump, premix the gas, put masking tape on the oil tank and mark the oil level. Ride for a hour, you should be able to tell if your oil pump is working or not by checking the oil level.

This exact thing happened on my rebuilt engine during breakin. Fortunately, I had premixed in the fuel tank for the breakin period. The elbow came right out of the oil pump. That fitting is apparently just pressed in and bradded from the inside. I am surprised it doesn't happen more often than it has been reported.

Others have given you the right course of treatment. Wishing you well on the turnout.
