oil change maintenance for skis

Hi all I'm wondering when do u guys do first oil change and do u do it urself or have dealership do it. The dealership local to me want 160 per ski to do it. Yet the confuse me. When I asked when should first oil change be the guy at dealership told me 25 hrs and he said to do it to what the seadoo recommend but sea doo manual days 50 hrs or 1 yr
 
The oil on a new ski was changed at 10 hrs. At 25 hrs and you haven't had a oil change yet, get it done. Don't wait.
 
I had my oil changed at the dealer at the 10hr mark. 'Course, I didn't know at the time how to do it myself...got raped with the bill. They did remove the maint message so...

After that....I bought my own oil removal pump...did it myself and saved some time and $.

Every 50hrs or so or once a year...which ever comes first. I also swap out the plugs at that time...whether they "need" them or not...cheap insurance.
 
If you listen to the video it describes it. You need non synthetic 10w40 motorcycle oil for your supercharged motor or the BRP XPS equivalent. BRP oil filter is fine.

So u think Mobil 1 10w 40 for high milage car is ok for it??

Yea I agree. The difference in price will be maybe $25 total per oil change. Most of us only do an oil change per season anyway so the price difference isn't an issue.

I went to a marine place and bought a nice pump, four pumps and it suck it out like a wet dry vac:)

Here is the one I got. Pricey but I use it on my commercial lawn mowers also.
Also, when you get the filter get the o-ring set also.

Cool thanks ill get that pump. Not trying to skimp on the oil I can't find anywhere that sells the xp oil

I probably do oil change a lot more I use the skis a lot I have is since 6/18 and now it got 42 hrs on them =)
 
Got oil changed not sure if used rite oil. Used the XPS oil the stuff in black bottle and used kn 556 filter

Any 10W40 "4 stroke motorcycle" oil is perfectly fine.

Reason being....the oil must be wet clutch compatible.

Most everyone I personally know uses Valvoline or Castrol GTX.
We catch it on sale in the early spring...cost is around $3-$4 per quart. After the first time...never spent a dime on over priced BRP oil....and it's been 8+ years.

Good to know since the stuff in the black bottle costed 75 bucks a gallon I swear dealership a rip off

Why did you say non-synthetic? Here's what my '02 ownwer's manual says:

"Engine Oil
Recommended Oil

This watercraft features a 4-stroke engine
that requires 4-stroke motor oil for
internal engine lubrication.

Ensure to respect the following requirements.
Use 4-stroke engine oil that meets or
exceeds the requirements for API service
classification SG, SH or SJ. Always
check the API service label on
the oil container to be sure it includes
those letters. Only use high-quality
high-detergent oil.

CAUTION: Never use any two-stroke
engine oil.

Oil Viscosity
SAE 10W40 is recommended for all
seasons."

I ddin't see the words synthetic or motorcycle in the BRP manual at all. From that, I take it I can use any high quality, high detergent 10-40 oil that meets or exceeds the SG, SH, or SJ classification.
 
You do what you please and use whatever oil you want. Fact of the matter is that whatever the 02 manual says I wouldn't trust. It was the first year for the SC motors and there's wasn't much data on what oil does what to which engine/sc parts. What happens is that the synthetic is too slippery compared to mineral oil and will cause the SC clutch washers to slip. That in turn causes poor performance and premature wear. I have seen this over and over first hand from numerous people I know personally and on this forum. You can believe what you want though. I'm just telling you my personal opinion that's based on some pretty obvious facts.
