Hi All,

I just got home with a 1997 GSX that I bought from my brother. It was left out for 6-7 years and have alot to do and have many questions to ask and hope I can get some answers.

I look just to get it running by the time summer ends cause we don't really have the $$$$ to just drop it off at a dealer and tell them to do what it takes to get it running at the moment. So maybe with the help of some of you guys I can do a few things myself. I'm not super mechanically inclined yet I'm not completely useless either.

Thanks,

Kev

Not quite the season so maybe you will get better resopnse if you ask a specific question.

Is it running at this time? What has been done?

Welcome to the seadoo forum. This is a friendly place with lots of active members eager to help out and answer any questions you might have.

With the season getting under way, it's hard to greet everyone that joins. I try to greet almost every member that joins up. As you can see I have a few posts under my belt...like over 7,500+. If you notice we are having as many as 40 to 100 new members per day. In season I answer a few posts which ends up like close to 75 to 125 per day....Sorry you got missed on your first day... I'm sure your questions won't get over looked.

Sorry guys i have a sarcastic sense of humor and I tried to put a smiley face at the end of that second message but i see i failed. Sorry for i was only joking around...

I know everyone has lives other than a messageboard..

Well I just bought it for cheap... REAL CHEAP and I decided not to wait I dropped it off at a brp dealer to have it serviced.

It needs a new battery, Carbs need rebuilding, A new key programmed and a new left sponson(sp?)... These are all things I am letting them take care of...

I really need a new seat cover and foam and handlebar grips I guess they are called. I was wondering how hard it may be to replace the grips myself and if an upholstery shop could redo the foam and seat cover or if i just need to get the factory one put back on it.

Like i said this thing sit for years and alot of stuff is just rotting on it... I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to boats or any kind of watercrafts... This is VERY VERY NEW to me. I have rode this GSX about 5 times back when i was much younger and it wasn't mine to take care of. Now it is mine and I hope to keep it running correctly and have it serviced like it should be. Sorry if I'm a bit sporadic with my information but I am bothnervous and excited about owning this and getting it out on the lake for the first time.

Are there any tips, tricks and/or suggestions you may have for me as I take it out for the first time?

Thanks in advance,
Kev

I'm sure if the dealer is servicing it for you, it should be ready to go have fun. Let us know if you encounter any other problems after you first outing.
