hello again, i have a 2004 sportster le di. I live 9000' in grand lake CO. last year, my boat got 5000rpms here, i went to the only shop in denver that will work on my boat, and they told me thats all it will get(after i bought the impellar and did a very expensive service and diagnoses). my wife and i slowly floated around for the summer and had fun w/ what we had.
we had the opportunity to spend this winter in texas so we brought our boat. it beeped warnings at us when we first started it and did the usual 5000rpm. this time however, it sounded very rev limited. i turned it off, had a beer and tried it again. after doin this a few times, it didnt beep, so i gave it throttle and we flew right to 7000rpm. i had no idea what an amazing machine i had.
i am now back home in CO. i start the boat and theres the beep. it takes quite a while of floating and occasionaly starting until the beep is gone(it really seamed to be figuring out the altitude again). now it runs at 5500rpm. i called every shop that carries seadoo and they all directed me to the same shop and said i should have more rpm than i do. the shop they direct me to is the same one that wants me to buy another impellar(i bought one from them last year). i do not claim to be a mechanic, but it seems to be a computer issue to me. its not trying to get more rpm, it just stops right at 5500.
i was told it might be my map sensor, so i asked a shop to order me one. they told me it had to be on the computer to be installed. is that correct? the only shop w/ that computer has definately lost my trust.
please help. i am on the water a lot in my sea doo, and its no fun having a boat that looks fast, but gets past by every other boat out there. almost no fun, i am out a lot. thanx for any help
