I just picked up my 05 GTI Base this week. Seems to have plenty of oil in the reservoir for now. But, not being familiar with the consumption rate, I want to pick some up so that I will have it when it is time to add. I have no PWC dealers near me - just your typical retain chain auto parts stores and Wally World. The operators guide says to use XP-S synthetic 2-stroke or XP-S mineral injection oil (or equivalent). But I'm not sure what is equivalent. I haven't found anything in the local stores that states XP-S either in a synthetic or non-synthetic 2-stroke oil. I have, though, found several varieties of 2-stroke oil that say they are for watercraft, including PWC's but I don't see any references to XP-S on any of them. Is this a Sea Doo brand reference or something else? I guess my actual question is: assuming I can't find something with a Sea Doo brand name on it, what should I look for as an equivalent?

The XPS-II will smoke less. It's not required for your engine, however it is the 'better' oil.
You'll read a lot about oil types/brands, etc. etc. People trying to save a few bucks.
If you run the stuff with "sea-doo" written on it, you won't have any oil issues.
Saving $20/season, at the risk of a $800-$1500 engine... run this stuff and go on with life...

Totally agree - not looking to save a buck, just looking to make sure I get the right thing and then figure out where to buy it. Sounds like Amazon or eBay might be my best bet as long as I have time to wait for it to arrive. So, if the reservoir is well over half full right now, and we ride the crap out of it over the July 4th weekend, is it reasonable to expect what it already has in to last? Or maybe the better question to ask is - how many tanks of gas, on average, might I burn through before I should expect to have to add oil?

I use Mercury Marine's Quicksilver Full Synthetic in my 2 stroke. The local Wally World at the lake carries it in stock. The Wally World in town does not.

Make sure you get the API-TC Full Synthetic. DO NOT buy the 2 cycle outboard motor oil, which is TC-W3.

I top mine off every time I fuel up. I know the Quicksilver will mix OK with XPS, but if you don't know what is in it, the mixture of oils can create a gel and everything goes downhill from there. Don't do it.
I don't know the capacity of your oil tank or fuel tank. The oil injection system is variable, but I would guess an average of 30:1 would get you near estimating distance. Hopefully, other 2 stroke guys will chime in, here. Frankly, I would not risk running out of oil. If you have to order it online, simply follow the directions and links from the other guys posts.
Thanks, of course my Wally World doesn't carry that particular oil. Most of what they have does say TC-W3 on them so I will just stay away and order online.

On my XP, you can easily go 3-4 tanks of gas before having to fill the oil even 1/2.
So I'd guess at least 3 tanks of fuel It's actually quite efficient because it's variable, unlike a premixed solution.
I'd just keep an eye on it. It should have an oil low light, but a visual tank check is safest.

If you order online, the price difference is about $10 per gallon. I use the Quicksilver not because of the price, but I can pick it up on the way to the lake. They also carry quart size and I always keep a Just-In-Case quart in the ski. As [MENTION=17278]SabrToothSqrl[/MENTION] said, $20-$30 for the whole season should not be the defining reason. If you think about it, that's a single lunch bill for a couple.
I ordered a gallon online but won't have it until probably next week. My son found a dealer about an hour away that carries it and is going to go pick up a gallon this afternoon. If a gallon of the stuff lasts a whole season, I guess we're set for a while. My Walmart carries some of the quicksilver stuff but not the type referred to above.
