Newbe Questions

Will be picking up my brand new(leftover-leftover)'07 Utopia 205 this coming Saturday. I've attached a couple of pics of my boat.

I already downloaded and read the owners manual and have some questions.

1) Can I do the 10 hour service myself? Will Seadoo be ok with this assuming I keep all receipts and records? I'd hate to have a warranty issue down the road.

2) Running engine out of the water. Start engine first THEN start water flow from hose?? To end flush stop water flow THEN shut off engine?? This is opposite what is common sense.

3) Attach quick disconnects to both engines and leave on boat permanent?

4) During break in no more than 3/4 throttle and vary speed frequently?

5) Does the Utopia 205 have a built in hour meter in the instruments?

6) How am I going to concentrate at work this week while waiting to get my boat Saturday?

Id have the dealer do it cause they hook it up to buds and chech off the 10hr service in the ecu so. Other then this id do all regular maintnance your self. Also in your have avtar list make model year and engines. Do you have 310hp or 430hp???? If you have the 430 version youll want to change out the washers in the supercharger's.

4) During break in no more than 3/4 throttle and vary speed frequently?( quick WOT wont hurt the ODD time, key to bearkin it to very the rpms)

5) Does the Utopia 205 have a built in hour meter in the instruments? (It has one built into the ecu)

6) How am I going to concentrate at work this week while waiting to get my boat Saturday?( your not goin to at all)

Well, I see you got your boat on the way. I'll be in agreement with sportsterjoel, you'll not be able to sleep!......I'd say, get drunk more often, it'll pass the time more quickly!.........:rofl: (I don't drink personally).

The idea of starting the engine first and then the water, vice versa in shutdown is correct. Unlike an outboard that has a water pump and different cooling system, this is required to keep water #1, from entering your combustion chamber in the event of backflow before exhaust pressure from the engine can push it out........and #2, push out all excess water before shut down.

I've read that for the 10 hour service, you can do the oil change yourself as long as all receipts are kept. But, I'm in total agreement again with sportsterjoel. So many members fret about paying that "huge" price for an oil change but it's truly more than just an oil change. As he states, they will plug into your ECU (electronic control module) and check a lot of information. You also need to remember, these new model engines with the total computerized, sensored engines record everything. When they hook the motor up to B.U.D.S. (bombardier utility diagnostic software) via VCK (vehicle communication kit), they will have information and tools that you see in the little black box the FAA looks for after a plane crash. They'll be able to print a graph of the varying response of the throttle, how many rpm's you ran and for how long. If they need to, they can even make changes to your engines performance through this computer software programming system.

Quick disconnects work well. You can leave them on and not worry about them when it's time to flush them. I use them on my boat as well.

I read a reply from Karl, yesterday I think, where it seems you've bought the same model engines as his. So, I'm sure he'll be the one to give you some good pointers. Just remember, vary the throttle, don't hold it wide open. You can nail it for a second or so.....but keep in mind. The dealers can see how long you leave it there........

Thanks for the replies guys! I was actually hopeful the '07 Utopia had an hour meter lcd readout in the dash. If not I'll have to install an hour meter as soon as I get the boat. Otherwise I'll be guessing at the 10 hours of cumulative run time.
