I don't want to spend 15000 on a new Seadoo not knowing if I will like doing it. Would a 2003 GTX pull a tube around being its not supercharged. He is asking 4000.00 for it. Thanks for any help. What should I look for as there is 130 hours on it.

Don't buy unless try it on the water. Make sure it does the top speed it's supposed to do. 3,500 to 4,000 with trailer in like new shape.

Compression test and a water ride is a MUST do. For the money they are asking it needs to be in pretty good shape and run very well with no issues.

What size engine does it have?

Google 2003 seadoo gtx specs. I think 50 to 54 non supercharged. Look if there is any deferred maintenance. Any more inspections that you can do is cheap insurance. Remember, these have hulls (holes) that the owner pours money into. Worst case, 2,500 in worn condition with good trailer and tires. Look up what it would take to replace or rebuild the engine and some accessories. You will have to eventually, just that you don't want, too soon.

where in NY are you located? 4000 doesnt seam too far off from long island money.. thats a pretty good number.. remember if your close to the coast they probably have seen salt water.. this shouldnt be a deterrent but just be cautious and look at the engine very well.. take a look at all the tubing and make sure its not dry rotted.. look at the impeller to make sure theres no major knicks or dings in it.. water test is a must.. i say ride it for atleast 8-10 minutes to make sure its fully functional.. sometimes when adding heat to an equation kinda messes things up. compression test should be done. (i think the magic number is.. it shouldnt be more then 10+/- off per cyl? can someone confirm?) pull the dip stick and make sure the oil isnt a milky color.

yes i would expect you to reach the 53-55 number on that machine.

one little tip.. looking at the inside of the hull and all the nuts and bolts will tell you a story.. you want them to both be as clean as possible without any mildew built up.. theres sorta a fine line between "normal appearance" and too clean.. and too dirty.

just keep your eyes open as post Sandy skis have been coming to market with a ton of problems.

You've got a fairly large ski with 130HP, personally I think 50 is a little optimistic. However you should have plenty of torque to pull a tube. Most states require a driver, an observer and room on the ski for the tube rider. I've tried it and it's almost more trouble than it's worth, have you considered a SeaDoo boat?

Scratch that, I mis-read your post, I thought it was a GTI, so yes 50MPH for a GTX is very realistic, maybe even mid-50's.

Good point about Sandy..
Not living there or through that kind of thing us Northerners don't think that way..

Just like in flood areas....lots of scammers selling cars that were flooded out....who knows how the motor fared out in the flood. It may run now but for how long

What speed do you think? What else shoud I look at.

I pull a tube with my 787 GTX and it has no problem what so ever.....mid to high 50's for you on the 130 HP ski.

An 03 GTX is 155HP.

Hah, that's true. i guess i had the 951 on my mind......after watching kate upton in slow motion again and again.

That ski also weighs 790 lbs compared to my 787 GTX at 575 lbs.seadoosource.com rates the top speed at 60mph

the stock GTX top end should be around 53 MPH... the SC tops out at 63 MPH. FYI - bring a flash light and take both seats off and take a good look inside the hull.. You can tell to what level its been taken care of.. ALso - pop off the two plastic trim pieces that sit on top of the engine.. see if there is any visable rust under neath... if you see salt residue all over in there you can for sure tell its not been taken care of to well.. if its run in salt the PO should have sprayed the entire engine compartment religiously with oil to keep it coated up... $4000 is not a steal for a 2003 non-supercharged.. its average for a decent ski with a decent trailer... Good luck in your search..
