If there is water in the engine the plugs will look very clean and white as they get steamed cleaned due to water in the cylinders.

Does the ski still have the Grey Tempo fuel lines? If so these MUST be removed and replaced with new style fuel line. Include the hose between the carbs and replace or MAJOR clean the fuel selector.

The rectifier can stop skis from reaching max speed. Simply unplug it to test to see if this is the issue. Your battery won't charge during the test but it will give you the answer.

could stuck raves cause these symptoms ?

I would think so. I didn't think about them. Certainly worth looking at. This and my suggestions are easy and free. I always try the simple cheap/free thing first.

agree. just going from my very limited experiences with troubleshooting 951's (no pun intended). but for some reason the 5K figure stick's in my head as a rave issue.... 4K would make me think fuel delivery, (selector or gummed lines) or maybe even the return line.

cleaning (or replacing, only $20) the fuel selector should be done even if running correct, i'd generally say it would make sense to do it while the fuel lines are addressed, assuming the tempo's are still in.

you guys can correct me if im wrong but the grey fuel lines thing is not an issue here in the uk. im pretty sure its coused due to the addition of ethnol or something in fuel. im pretty sure its not added here in uk. ive been using jetskis over here since about 69/70 and never had an issue with fuel lines yet (meby ive been lucky)

From all I have read you are correct. However, I would at least check various connections for green goo if you don't know the past history of the ski.

that's sounds common sense cant hurt nothing to check lines for goo. and the fuel selectors are notorious for corrosion.
best to check all the simple things first can save you a lot of money if its sumit daft.
a quick clean of rave valves, fuel lines ext. and you could be skiing at the weekend. good luck

On my 951 RAVES, first thing I did was clean them well and forgot about them while working on other issues. This 951 had never been touched before for the most part, so there were issues. Then, after taking care of these odds and ends still wondering why I couldn't reach 7000RPM I cleaned the RAVES again during winterization maintenance and BINGO, found my long sought after 7kRPM!

So yeah, I think you might find it necessary to clean the RAVES at least once per season minimum, possibly twice! :)

Will do, we are taking the ski next Sunday to a friends who has all the tools and sort all the little things that people have suggested here, also a few things the guy told us about we will be looking at.
