Hello everyone, first post for me. I'm a newb to all things PWC so be gentle. :)

My wife's boss has a 2005 Sea Doo GTX (not supercharged) with a locked up motor. I'm not sure what happened to it, and he doesn't really know either. He has the kind of money where he buys these things and then buys a new one when they break. Anyway, to make a long story short I was told to make him an offer and to come get it out of his garage.

Just looking at it, you wouldn't know anything is wrong with it. Everything is there, and overall it looks like it's in very good shape. I'm just wondering what would be a fair price to offer him knowing that it doesn't come with a trailer, and that it obviously needs an engine. I'm mechanically inclined and all, but I don't know how PWC engine replacements work. Would there be a core charge on a good used engine? I have no idea if the motor in it would even be a useable core.

I'm not looking to build the fastest thing on the lake. I just want something to have fun with during the summer, and to let my little girls ride on with me. Anyway, let me know what you think or tell me if I should stay away from it. I'll try to take some pics and post them later. I think I can get it for about $500, but again, I don't even know if that's worth it. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Offer him what it is worth to you, if you do get it, I'd try and find someone to install a engine for you. I know I wouldn't attemptit, and I play with outboards all the time, but these SeaDoo's have tons of electronics and you can probably plan on many issues once the engine is in, that's why I say "only offer him what it's worth to you!!!

Here a few pics. It's a GTI LE, not a GTX. And it looks like it's a 2 stroke. Needs the dust washed off of it, but it's not all beat up.

just my 2 cents

I don't know all that much, but I think if you could get it for $500 it could be a good price. It could be something as simple as a stuck starter gear, or something as bad as rings fried to the block. You really have no idea until you crack it open (know this if you do buy it, you are walking into a dark room), but worst comes to worst you could part it out, and regain you losses. Are you going to try and do the work or pay a stealership.

It's a nice ski.. but a blown engine, and no trailer... $500 is a good price. And yes... that's a 720 engine. (2-stroke)

Also... that's looking like a 2002 LE since it has a blue bottom hull.

Pesonally... I'd grab it for $500, but if he's tired of looking at it... tell him $300.
