Thanks LouDoo

Meant to post this in meet and greet, but if it works here perfect. Was able to take the ski out down here in FL on Saturday. Ran great.

Chris, Welcome to the forum. Nice ski! Feel free to ask questions as you have them. There are plenty of experts on here that can help you literally with any question you have...about Seadoos. Take care.

I just started removing all my old graphics, what did you use to make your hull look so new?

I just used some medium compound and gave it a wax. It has three shades of yellow going on right now and some ghost graphics left. This pic is after first trip out and I got around to removing last hull stickers. Much better!

With Minnetonka4me's help I am going to add a tach and change out the obsenely large VTS gage for the smaller one.ski1.jpg

My 97xp also has 3 shades of yellow, especially when viewing under the fluorescent shop lights. Hood, rear hatch, and hull are all different shades. The hood on mine seems to have a slight green hue to it, or pale yellow. I suspect they came new like that.

In case you don't already know, make sure you take care of the fuel system. If it has any grey fuel lines, get rid of them and make sure the filters in the carbs are clean. Do this work now so you know where its at and don't seize a piston.

Plenty of pros on here can help you through anything you may encounter. Minnetonka4me can probably show you some nasty grey fuel lines and carb filters if you wonder what Im talking about.

I'm thinking eventually I am going to paint yellow parts of hood, but who knows.

Previous owner changed over all the fuel lines so I am solid there. Thanks for the heads up! Anything else of note I should check out?

I'm a corporal deputy in Sumter and have to work this weekend. Maybe we can start our own riding club and help each other out with our ski's. PM me if interested? Sean

With a new to me ski, I don't trust the PO to have done anything and/or do it correctly until I see it for my own eyes. So, go over the ski front to back.

-Drain, pressure test, replace pump oil
-Visually inspect wear ring and impellor
-Check/Replace clamps and boot on VTS rod and make sure there is no water in VTS motor housing and spray with corrosion inhibitor
-Grease driveshaft mid bearing
-Test/verify battery is in good condition and replace if necessary
-Replace any grey fuel lines that carry liquid (vent lines are ok to leave)
-Verify water separator screen is clean as well as carb internal filters are clean
-Replace oil injection lines from pump to intake port (if still oil injected)
-Replace oil injection pump filter and check to make sure line feeding pump are in good condition
-Verify oil injection pump cable bracket screws are tight, lubed, operates smoothly, and is adjusted properly
-Verify no air bubbles in oil injection lines

Once all that is complete, if the ski is stock, I verify the carb settings are at/ or near factory set points and then take it out for a test run, plug chop, reading, etc to verify I'm not running lean. Then I usually address any other problems like non-working fuel gauge, etc.

Anyone else please feel free to chime in, Im sure I missed something.

Excellent list! Thank you DAO80682. Some of this has been done since I picked the ski up, but I was not this thorough.

And I do in fact have a non working fuel gauge! Ha.

Yup thats the list I do on all my restorations. I can only add a few more...

I replace the oring on top of the fuel water seperator...just to kill a possible issue.
Clean replace fuel selector
Check all connections that go thru the hull...esp on any machine that doesnt have the pump support plate. Most have rubber orings that are completely rotten.

Check big plastic nut on thru hull exhaust port...they seem to work loose and leak.

OH one more big one...check the lower "freezeplug" on the bottom of the head pipe...its directly above the oil pump. the last couple years it seems they are all letting loose now. They need to sealed. Some just JB weld...I perfer to fix it correctly by taking it off and having it welded.

I just got a new to me 97 gsx that has proformance enhancers. But I needed to replace the rotary and cover, hopefully not to hard to use a degree wheel. The carbs look like they sat I in a junk yard for years, I all ready spend a week cleaning them and got the rebuild kits, hopefully it's easy never did it before. Need to replace some if not all fuel and oil lines, wish someone would come over and help with that, there are some lines disconnect that I'm not sure yet where they go.
