Hello my name is jacob. I have saved up just enough to hopefully get a 150 speedster. I am 15 years old with a boating safety course certification etc. and have driven many seadoo ski's and boats aswell as other boats. I live on the ocean here in long island new york. My goal is to get a good deal during the winter on a new 150. My father is paying for half the boat. I do have a few questions tho. Like if i am going to be storing the boat in the saltwater what exactly do i need to do? And how much is insurance on average it would be in my father's name etc. and he has zero accidents/tickets (if that matters for a boat ).
thanks for any help

First of all...I would not store any seadoo boat in the water. And in no way at all would I store it in salt water. They are not meant for that. To even run in salt water, you need to flush the motor good after every use and wash down the entire boat inside and out, including the engine compartment.

Insurance can vary a lot. Mine is only 250 a year on an older boat. I would think your dad should be able to get it for under 500 bucks a year.

that i guess ruins the ideea of a seadoo seing as i cant take it out of the water cause there is no ramp etc. close enough to me.

There are a bunch of guys from the long island area on here. Hit up that regional section and maybe they have some tips for ya. I am sure there is a way to use it in your area without leaving it in the water.

well idk if this is possible but the way my dock works is kind of like a T so the cross of the t is the stairs to my home so i could actualy store the boat on the dock and water it down there but the problem would be getting it onto the dock. i guess i could use the trailer and instead of a truck maybe a winch?

You could add a lift. Nothing fancy. They have manual operated ones where you turn a big hand wheel crank thing and lower the boat or raise it. Search the internet and you can find them. They are expensive though....like $2000

exactly i cant afford that but this way would cost almolst nothing (only thing i need to buy would be a winch)

I dunno how you plan on winching the boat up onto the dock and getting it back off. I just done envision it. MAybe post this in the generqal boat section to get more answers. I think I would just find a way to put the boat in the water and take it back out when you are done...another ramp or find a freshwater lake somewhere.

Something like that should work perfect. There are other brands out there made for jet boats and skis. Jet Dock and Dandy Dock are 2 brands. They are still like 2 grand though. Try to find a used one on craigslist. I see them around me sometimes.

yea i found one on craigslist for 4k lol so i thought of a different idea which would be almost impossible to describe haha

basically my problem is i need to take the boat out of the water so i cant dock it on the side of my dock. So i would need to store on top of my dock. I kept thinking and couldnt figure out how but then i decided if i put my trailer on the dock. I could get a winch and hook it up to the dock and launch the boat rite off the dock. so i would push the boat on the trailer off the dock slowly till the back wheels go off the side of the dock. then slowly let the boat slide into the water and be done. Now the recovery would be like and other except i would just get the tip of the boat onto the trailer and then winch it up onto the whole trailer with the trailer winch. And then winch up the whole trailer back onto the dock. Therefore being able to store it on top of my dock on the trailer making it easy to flush/wash the saltwater off the boat. I think it will work maybe take 10 extra min but still work. Any opinions?

I just dont see it working honestly. I think it sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. I think you should post your dilemma in the boat general question area to get other opinions besides mine. A lot of people dont read the meet and greet threads everyday.

These boats dont just slide off and on the trailer as easy as you think. I dont see how you are gonna lift it up onto the trailer....When the trailer is in the water, it sits much lower than the boat and the boat floats onto it. I dont think you will be able to achieve it the way you plan.

I dont think it is that easy. Not unless your dock can go lower down into the water. That winch isnt meant to lift the boat up over the side of a dock and pick the boat up.

Yeah i am almost positive that wont work. You arent gonna get the trailer on and off the dock. I doubt it will get the wheels back up onto it. I think it could be disastrous if you try. Ask around and see what the others think though.

okay well i went and looked closely with my dad and i dont see it being that hard seeing as the dock is about 8 inches above the water so if i had a ramp at the end of it about a foot and a half long i could lower the boat on the trailer into the water then to recover i could drive the boat onto the trailer and i could get almost 3/4 up onto the trailer and then use the trailer winch to winch the rest onto the trailer and then when it is on use my "big winch" to pull the whole trailer back on the dock

With an actual ramp built at the end, you may get something to work. I would be really careful though. But now I think the width may be your problem.
