Hi all, I am new here and just acquired a 96 seadoo bombardier GTX at auction. I rececieved the ski with no keys or anything, I am a diesel mechanic so sort of know what I am doing just use to bigger engines. Anyway I was looking for this grey MPEM box so I can get keys made and it doesn't seem to exist??? Am I not looking in the right place? All I see is the battery and next to the battery a small black box with I think 4 cables going in, I opened it and it doesn't seem to be what I am looking for. My title says GSX5620 so I don't know if the GTX stickers were just put on or what I'm doing.. any help would be greatly appreciated just want to get a key and my dealer isn't close and wants me to drag the whole ski up there and I am not for that at all.. let me know thanks

Lift the hood open and pull up the storage bin. You will see a grey box to one side that houses the mpem.

Thank you! I have been searching this whole damn thing and couldn't find anything also it still has the grey fuel lines Ii was told they should be replaced

If you have Grey Tempo fuel lines, nothing else matters just yet. They are engine killers as they force a Lean condition and the pistons will eat themselves. You need to replace the lines, pull and rebuild the carbs and internal filters using OEM gaskets, replace the needle and seat as well as the fuel selector.

So for the GSX vs GTX issue, do the vin numbers match up? The vin is on the rear of the ski. The GSX is a two seater and would be blue/purple and the GTX is a green three seater. and Minnetonka4me can do the key thing for you, but you will need to disconnect the MPEM and send it to him. You will have it all back within a week. He sells keys too for a reasonable price.

Yup I can program the key for you. If its a 96 you are looking for a grey box on the left side or the front left side.

So I just got the keys! It is a 3 seater gtx, as I thought it did not start [emoji848] but cranked fine.. so I gave it a shot of starter fluid and it ran for a couple seconds.. I then looked under the hood and cleaned the fuel filter, tried a couple times and noticed it did not fill up with fuel?? So now I narrowed it down to a fuel problem.. how can I text the pump? What else should I try to narrow it down?

Save yourself some pain and do not use starter fluid, no lubrication. Mix up some 40:1 PWC oil/gas for tests.

I may not have the best info, but do not see a 96 GTX; I do see a 95 GTX ... check HIN, last 2 digits are model year. If actually 95, check for dealer if fuel tank recall has been done, no cost for you.

Research here regarding all the fuel delivery system things that need to be checked/repaired to save you from serious headaches.

Welcome to the best SeaDoo forum; a lot of helpful people here and a bunch of real experts.

Glad you have some fire. That is the first step and an important one. Honestly, I would not run it much now, even on the trailer until you get the carbs off and cleaned. And also the fuel lines and selector. Now that it cranks, do a compression test on it. That will tell you a bunch more. That fuel filter you see is mainly a fuel water separator. The bowl has an o-ring that just loves to suck air. So remove the bowl (unscrew) and check the oring. Then snug it all back up. These skis suck fuel into the carbs, so they do not work at all if there is a vacuum leak in the supply plumbing. So change the lines, etc, and clean the carbs. If your compression is good, then you will have a great ski to ride. There are some other maintenance things to do such as the pump and the raves, but do the fuel stuff first. AND post pictures! And check out my SHAMU thread (link below). It shows a lot of what you will be doing and the potential of the ski.

Soccerdad! Thanks!!! Do you have the sites to buy the rebuild kits for the carb and other parts etc.. what am I looking for as far as compression? I will do some checks this weekend and hopefully get the fuel lines replaced, and what is the selector? Just need some more info like I said I work on Diesel engines these little engines confuse me I don't know why.. any info would be great especially a parts site. I thought I would see some fuel moving or being pushed but since you said it gets sucked into the carbs I guess that could be my problem! I'll start there

I typically get mine from Nick at OSDparts.com. I'd also suggest Nick Cairns or Jess Cairns at WestSide powersports. OSD is only an hour from me so I usually get my orders next day.

I sent a buddy a screenshot of what to order recently doing the same thing you are. Pay attention to the extras on the cab kit that's your fuel valve/selector.

I get a 25' roll of 1/4 fuel line for under $19 at amazon. Then 2 pkgs of the stainless clamps at home depot.

Jdawg,
Still curious on the title thing. Things can get a little sketchy at auction. Does the HIN on your title match The HIN on the little black embossed placard on the back right of your ski right under the rub rail? That whole Gsx on a GTX thing throws a flag up. I was almost duped a while back on an XP that was a 96 but had a 95 title. Also, how did you manage to get the keys? Did you track down the previous owner?

Really do not start and run till you make sure the oil injection system and fuel system are up to snuff. You run most not in the water and you will destroy the carbon seal. Better to have it backed into the water, to test stuff while running. They are not real difficult to work on. I have been wrenching cars and trucks most of my life. They just have systems you are not familiar with. Carbs with return lines. Pump as the drive system. Cooling system water supplied by the drive system. Lawn tractor type charging with a stator. Wasted spark ignition. LARGE 2 stroke engines. Get the repair manual like I said. Read it and understand about some of the systems.

Yes the numbers do match, the ski is a 96. I sent the computer out and had two keys programmed to it.. I usually buy cars/trucks at the auction usually wrecks to rebuild. Then the ski came up and I figured let me see what I can get it for. After I won I found out it was a theft recovered ski and I bought it from State Farm through the auction. Sent the title out to my fish and game and everything came back clean and clear so just waiting for the new title in my name. It is a gtx

Have you done a compression test ? If it doesn't have good compression you will have to put alot into it.

Ok I just did a compression test and not good :(. 90psi dead even on both cylinders.. so looks like I am going to pull the engine and rebuild.. so any good write ups on how to do so? And is it hard to pull the engine out?

Ok, I will see if I can try a different one, this one is brand new, first thing I used it on was this ski today.

Try a second gauge just to be sure. It is good they are even so gauge could be reading low.
Battery fully charged and hold throttle wide open when cranking.
