Hey all,
I am fixing/restoring my girlfriend's family jetski. It's a 1999 SeaDoo GTX Limited. If you want to read about the whole story, see my intro: http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?39673-New-guy-from-Toledo-OH. A friendly reminder to everyone: I am not the neglector, merely the repairman. I have the factory service manual and parts catalog for help, but I need your guys' help too!
Here is the patient:
Think it looks rough on the outside? Here's the inside. I pulled the engine last year, but had to tarp it up for the winter because of lack of garage space. The tarp is new, but all the snow ruined the old one, thus water in the hull.
Since there is so much nasty crap in the bottom of the hull, I decided to pull the oil and gas tanks to get everything cleaned out.
After syphoning 90 % of a 3/4 full tank of 5 year old gas, I finally got it out. What a pain I couldn't believe how big the tank was. Here it is compared to the gas tank out of a 1986 Bronco II.
Now that that is out of the way, here's what I have as of 4/05/2011
I've dipped over 3.5 gallons of oil water out of the hull.
Nice, right? I plan on getting everything squeaky clean on the inside before I even attempt to reinsert the engine, hook everything up and troublshoot it.
I cleaned the rubber isolators for the fuel and oil tanks. They came out pretty nicely.
Now for my questions:
1.) Obviously the carbs are going to need rebuilt. I hear only go with genuine SeaDoo kits. Where do I get SeaDoo parts the cheapest?
2.) How bad is this? Any ways to test everything?
3.) I noticed the stator cover is cracked right here. Is this possibly why it stopped running?
Additional pics:
4.) What the hell does a power valve do?
5.) What is this metallic substance? anit-sieze or something worse?
6.) What is the ribbed box on the right? I know it's part of the exhaust. Resonator perhaps?
Lastly, please don't tell me to do a search on the sight for the information I'm looking for. I will do that in my little free time. I'd rather spend the time on my homework, with the girlfriend, etc. I'm looking for quick help. I want to contribute to the forum, but don't have a ton of time to do a lot of research. I by no means want to come off sounding like a douche, I just need quick help and would like straight foreward answers, so I have to consult one webpage instead of many. Thanks for all your help in advance, many write ups to follow.
Sincerely,
Kevin
