So I bought new twin carbs for my 951, looks like the accelerator pump is different.......the old one is much larger in size. I guess the new one is a 717/787 style pump. Is this a problem?

As long as the carbs. are the correct size I don't see where the accelerator pump would make any difference. It's only used ad idle speed and just a little higher, supposedly to keep from stalling out at low speeds.

BTW, where is Cobboseecontee Lake in Maine, we spent a lot of summers in Maine at Sebago Lake, my wife's folks had a cottage in East Sebago.

Thanks Lou.

It's about an hour north up 95 off the Augusta 202 exit. Pretty decent size, a mile by 13 miles long. Big enough to never get bored. Best bass tournament fishing in Maine. My camp is on the Winthrop side.

I've seen and run both on 951s. I forget what year they changed it.

You'll be fine.

Before you install them, make sure you have the correct jets and springs installed.

Usually the new carbs I buy I put new jets in too.

I used to have the sizes memorized. Just google it.

I thought the first year of the 951 had the smaller accelerator pump in through 98, then in 99 they switched over to the larger size. it does make a small difference on full throttle take offs. the smaller acc pump has just the slightest hesitation and almost wants to bog, nothing you would notice unless you drove one right after the other. the larger one just goes and the idle to 30mph times proved it as I remember back in the day.

but not sure why the older one is smaller? do you mean older to you or older by the years they were mfg?
