I just bought a used 1997 Seadoo Sportster, and I took it down on the water, and had it out for about 1/2 hour, got it started, noticed lots of smoke, seemed even worse when we accelerated, then a few minutes later, it died, and when we tried to start it, we got the two beeps, and then just a click, and nothing. I tested the battery, and it seems fine, checked the spark plugs, and they seem to be dry, so we switched those out, and tried newer ones, and it still didn't work....we are first time boaters, so we don't know much about it, and we were just wondering if there is a simple explanation?

Unfortunatly... there isn't a simple explanation.

The smoke is normal if the boat has been sitting for a long time... it would have cleared out it it continued to run.

It dieing can be the plugs being fouled out from the extra oil... the arbs can be plugged up... the engine could have hove heated and seized... it could be electical....... etc.

At this point... it could be anything until you do a little troubleshooting.

well, apparently the boat was used by the previous owner just last week, and worked great.
We checked the spark plugs, and even put new ones in, and still got nothing...because we are new boaters, we don't know what we should be checking.
Thanks for the info, everything helps!
