gentlemen/gentleladies;

I have a 1998 speedster. The machine ran fine for 2 years 2005-2006. I gave it to my son, he drove it for a year and a half. The right enine siezed. We had it repalced. The engine lasted for about 2 hours and siezed. We had it repalced. Now both engines have seized. Does anyone have similar problems? Better yet what can I do to fix the problem?

Respectfully,
Chip

Well Chip, the big question is what caused the seizure, and did you correct the problem so it didn't happen again? Is it an oil injector problem? Is it a over heat problem? Just replacing the damaged engine isn't solving the original problem.

Yeah you need to find out why they seized. That should have been done after the first motor went south. If you dont correct the problem, you will keep wasting money on new engines. I would guess you either have an issue where it isnt getting oil or its not getting water.

Did it use any oil form the oil tank during these hours leading up to the failure? You should be having to add oil to the tank. Any alarms from the beeper?

With proper steps to check the boat before using it and then again after, it should have been kinda obvious there was an issue. I am kinda surprised whoever did the engine work didnt wanna find the underlying problem.

Dont think he corrected the problem, if both are seized.

either verify that the oil pumps are working, or completely block them off, and go premix. Other than that, only other issue, would be, carbs are bad and need gone thru, also, it possible that the "hone" wasnt set correctly to the pistons, on the first rebuild.

I posted 9/15/2010 regarding engines seizing on a 1997 speedster. Several responses were did you find the problem causing the seizures.
all I can say is the oil flows freely our of the oil rank to both engines. They were rebuilt all but the left which was factory. When receiving a rebuilt does the oil injection come with that correctly installed?

Also, Is it worthwhile to switch to premix rather than go through this expense?

Thx Chip

The only expense is what really is the problem...oil injector failure, Plugged lines, or cooling problem leading to a over heat condition.? You need to inspect all systems before you go putting a band-aid on a broken arm, if you know what I mean.
