I picked up a 2002 gtx for free. All I know about it is it has been sitting for a year and a half and nobody has done anything to it. I'm thinking I need to try and turn the engine over by hand before trying to start it just to get things moving. I want to make sure it's not locked up before putting any money into it. (Have to buy keys and batteries)

How do I get the engine to turn over by hand? I tried to see if I could use the drive shaft that comes out of the back of the motor, but there is a rubber cover around the only section of shaft I can see in the hull. I tried to take cover off, but it doesn't appear to come off unless you can take it off the end of the shaft. Any help on how I should turn the engine over? Is there a timing plug that I can pull off to access the crank to turn it over? Any other things I should look for before getting too deep into this?

I have a lot of experience with Fourwheeler's and dirt bikes, but this will be my first seadoo project.

If you put a battery in it, you can jump the solenoid which will activate the starter. I'd pull the plugs and see if the cylinders are clear and spray some lube in before I cranked it.

Take a look at the oil, make sure it is just oil,,,

Ive checked the oil and it looks good! Is there a way I can turn the motor over without using the starter? I'm thinking if I try and use the starter and the motor is locked up, it may hurt the starter??

If I pull the plugs, is there a spot on the drive shaft that I can put a wrench on? What is the best way to turn the shaft if not?

On the 4-tec skis there is little room to get to the shaft. There MAY be room just aft if the engine where the carbon seal is.

I think I have good news... the engine is not locked up. I was able to get the shaft to turn and watched all 3 pistons move up and down.

Now the bad news... when I pulled the plug from the forward most cylinder, there was a brown rusty colored water that was coating the plug and could see some down in the cylinder. The rear most cylinder apeared to have a few drops of water too. The center cylinder was bone dry and the plug looked good. My question is what to do next? Throw a battery in and try to spin it over fast enough to push the water out? Or do I need to tear into motor and diagnose further? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Crank it with the plugs out. Install new spark plugs and see what you get. Assuming you have good gas?
