hey everyone,

start out by saying thanks for looking and hopfully helping me.

ok i have a 2002 gtx 4-tec. when i put the lanyard in the starter will run untill i unplug it and get one long beep and no gauges.
when i unplug the starter relay i get no beeps and no gauges.
i'm thinking mpem. any thing i can try?

We need the history what happened before this. For example, like how the battery went dead and then you jump started it from your car making sure you revved the car up nice and high to charge the ski battery extra good and fast.

mpem doesn't control the ski like the older ones, it all done through the ECU which sounds like it is toast. but humor us, give us the whole story.

the whole story is i just got this ski for cheap and i have no clue what the other owner did. i know not to jump start them.

Only reason i was thinking mpem is the gauge cluster is not working and mpem controls that on this ski.

There was one blown fuse on the mpem 5a for ecm start/stop i replaced it and nothing changed and it did not blow again.

looking at the wiring diagram i see the mpem sends power to the starter relay and the ecu grounds it i think. does anyone know if it should have consent power from the mpem or consent ground in the ecm

Unfortunately... it sounds like the MPEM has been roasted.

BUT.... you can unplug the start/stop button from the system. who knows... you may get lucky, and find the switch went bad.

i will try it this afternoon let you all know what happens.
if i do need a mpem is it that or the ecu or the dess that holds the key code?

for the 4tec skis, the MPEM is only a distribution center, just a fuse box really, it does nothing other than this and the mpem doesn't fail when jump started, the ECU does and you are describing a ski that has been jump started. symptoms of a bad ECU from jump starting are one or several of the following: 5A fuse blows when powered up, runs fine but no gauges, completely dead, tries to start as soon lanyard put on, will crank over but not run.

the LCD gauge is controlled by the ECU, not the MPEM. the LCD not working is usually the most common problem when the ECU is fried. if the LCD is really bad, the ski will give you a long single beep after the initial 2 beeps when putting on the lanyard.
