need a solenoid

well, still not on the water. put the battery in the first ski and it fired right up. tried the 2nd ski and nothing at all. jumped the solenoid and it cranked strong. swapped solenoids between the 2 ski and confirmed I need a solenoid. I don't suppose there is any solenoid I can get from the auto parts that will work???? :facepalm: Just grasping for straws to try and salvage the possibility of getting both skis in the water.

You can use almost any solenoid, just a matter of cutting the plug in wires as automotive solenoids have lugs, not plugs.

You can run a heavy wire from each side to a heavy switch, like a battery switch and use it to "jump"!the solenoid until you get an OEM replacement.

so there would be small lugs for the little yellow wires that run into the plug in addition to the lugs for the wires from the battery and to the starter?

Yep.

And you will need a ground as well as some plug in like our Seadoo's and some get the ground when they get bolted to the metal fender if the car. Since our skis aren't metal, you may have to run a ground wire to the mounting tab.

if I get one rigged up, any reason I would then have to replace it with OEM?

Nope. Just a matter of preference is all.

I'd buy two of whatever you buy. That way if you EVER need one in the future you are good to go.

skis are now ready to go tomorrow. The solenoid from Lowes works fine and was $30 cheaper than an OEM one. Had to run the ground wire to the mounting bracket as Joe said and add a blade connector to the wire from the starter. Kudos Joe. Thanks for the Help!
