Hey guys I need a impeller for my 02 GTX. I see lots of solars for around $225 shipped. I also found a nujet for $170 shipped. Is one better than the other?

Thanks
Tyler

You really don't gain much with an aftermarket impeller, not much bang for the buck, if you go aftermarket it depends what you want. Do you want quicker out of the hole, or faster top end. The stock impeller is a good balance between the two. Faster out of the hole I would go with a Skat Trak, better top end go with a Solas. Nujet honestly is kinda iffy, they're like the KMart of impellers, it will work but not the best quality.

You also have another option, SBT offers a rebuild exchange program for (I think), $65.00, for the OEM, probably a better option than the Nujet.

To expand on what Lou said,,

Seadoo did a very good job with their impellers as far as low end torque and top end speed relative to max RPMs.

With an aftermarket you can easily increase low end performance but it normally comes at a cost of top end speed. And this is true if you want to increase top end speed as well (you will have poor performance low speed).

That said, an aftermarket that is the correct fit for general use will normally give you marginal better low end, an increase with mid range performance, and minimal on the top end.

Meaning that you gain is almost all mid-range performance.

Unless you do something that will increase engine power/RPMs, an aftermarket impeller is not you best choice for money spent if you are looking for more speed.

Nujet blows. (lol) Every time someone installs one, they wonder why they spent the $$$.

Here's the short answers....

SOLAS (Concord): These have the best hub, and are efficient. Because of that, you will gain in top end, and you will see a drop in RPM for any given cruse speed. That will turn into better fuel economy for distance.

With that said... if you have a tired/old engine... the top speed may not really be noticeable. 1~2 MPH.

Skat-Trak (Swirl): These are great at getting rid of cavitation. AND, they pull harder than any other impeller. (good for acceleration and towing) With that said... they generally won't give you any more speed up top, and in some cases, you will loose 1~2 mph. BUT.... the thing that will put a grin on your face is how well your ski will accelerate.

I personally use Skat-Trak swirl impellers in almost all my toys.

The Dr. wrote it beautifully!

One other small factor...Skat-trak is made in the USA. Solas is in the Philippines. Skat track, although hurting trying to compete against asian counterparts, still tries to help the community where they can. They hooked up our freerides this year really good.

Glenn at Skat is the MAN as far as tweaking and repairs. They will fix any and all props, and his work always looks great when I've had some mag pumps massaged/refurbed by him.

Tony, you certainly have a subtle way of expressing yourself, why don't you just say what you really mean.

Sorry Lou. (LOL)

Sometimes being blunt is best. NuJet advertises like they are the best thing since sliced bread, and they really don't offer any benefit over stock.

OK... to give NuJet a positive note......

If your impeller is beat, and you just need a replacement... then they are the cheapest "NEW" option. (but a good, used OEM will be less)

Since this talks about impellers I have a question also. I'm restoring 99 challenger and when working on pumps noticed that the two had different impellers in them. Is this something I need to change? I don't know enough about them to look at them and tell which is which but they are different.

Sometimes this is done to reduce the tendency for a dual engine boat to pull to the left. Click on "PARTS" above and see if both impellers have the same part number.

Lou

Oh ok. Well I looked at the parts and it has one number for both. And seeing as I don't know which pump was on which side I will have to use trial and error. Thanks for the input
