Definite CB shaft bearing failure 97 GTX 787. Four years post-rebuild having fun in N Idaho lake, started to hear a little rattle and small loss of RPM. Started to get louder and then just quit, at first thought fuel issue but rattle made me think otherwise. Pulled the engine today and behold the damage. Slivers of bearing in debris. Similar post earlier but closed to reply. Enjoy!

You got water in it from the rust and it ruined the bearings. Definitely your smoking gun.

Yes I agree, thank you for replying. Do you think it would be worth my time if I just purchased a lower case and rebuilt from there? New shaft, bearings, etc... Or is this my new "parts engine"?

I traded for a 787 GTX and the engine was just like that. LOL Guy said it was running when he got back to the dock. Funny thing, you couldn't see the damage from the top.
