my steering is very very hard to turn on my 2001 sea doo xp, im thinking its my steering cable, but i just want to hear what you guys think it is before i waste my money on the cable and find out its something else. the steering steers, but it is very rough and hard to turn. i took the nut off of the impeller and disconnected it from the steering cable and the impeller spun freely, its the cable that needs to be replaced, correct? thank you

yeah thats what i figured. just wanted to check with someone else before i spent more money on my machine, thanks!

If you are basing it off of the feel of another machine? I have a set here the guy wanted it replaced...the XPLs feel heavier than say a GSX.

Its probly never been maintained, oiled or greased. That said, I have brought many back that after removeing the cable, puting one end in my vise, I was able to free up and relubricate, then regrease, especially the end at the rear of ski that is in water constanly. Hold the cable and re-oil and slide the sheath back & forth and twist ect ect. Excellent results!

any photos? my 02 XP was (from what i was NOT told, and can see) sitting at the bottom of the ocean for a few hours... and my cable is stiff... what exactly did you do / photos?

thanks! if you pull the cable, how much is the cable, i mean you doing the same amount of work, why not just replace it if it's not too much $ i'd say under $100 i'd just replace it... then you know you will get several more years out of it...

a new one is about $100 or so...used are about $40 from freshwater sellers. I dont have one, but my brother has many.
