So I picked up a running 94sp, non-running 96xp and double trailer with diamond plate tool box for $600. The running ski has new fuel lines and a rebuilt carb. It runs good, but I think the wear ring needs replacing. The xp has an elcetrical issue, lost key and trashed gas tank. I'm hoping the motor is good...it turns when I jump the starter to the battery. The owner went ahead and bought a new key, I just need to get it programmed and the local dealer is replacing the gas tank under the service call...I think they are going to prpogram the key for me for free as well. Im cleaning the RAVES, rebuilding the carbs, changing the fuel lines and went ahead and converted both to premix...which is just my preference. I pulled the mpem and the rear of it had a nickel sized spot that was melted through, so Im assuming it was bad. I went ahead and got a new oem one so Im hoping that will fix the electrical issue.

The cover to the VTS is missing and the motor is rusted and corroded, which ive read can cause the mpem to fry, so can I just disconnect the wires to the VTS or leave the fuse in the rear electrical box out? If I do this will the ski still fire up..assuming everything else is good? Im afraid of frying the new MPEM!

The owner tore apart the rear electrical box and the ignition coil is missing. I have one on order. But I have no clue how to wire that box properly. Does anyone have a wiring diagram? The last pages of the manual I have do not have a wiring diagram. Also, there's a male 2 prong plug in that rear box that I cant find where it hooks to, does anyone know?

Thanks for all the help!

What manual do you have?

Yes... just disconnect the VTS wires, and manually set it to center (if you can) so the nozzle is in line with the pump.

On the fuel tank. Is it truly messed up... or is it just cracked?? If there is a crack in it... that's a safety recall, and a dealer can still submit it as warranty. (If they can still get a tank)

Why did you convert to pre-mix?? The injection system is super reliable if maintained. Also, you will save $$$ by burning less oil... and you won't smoke at idle. I personally always recommend leaving it in.

Yes they are fixing the tank under the safetty recall for free and they have one in stock. th ski was already converted to premix, so I'm just going to keep it that way at least until they are both running top notch. I may convert them back later on.

Here is a link to the rear box. I got from the parts link at top of the SDF page. Just click on yr of ski then model and everything is at your finger tips. Hope this helps, looks like you have a big electrical rebuild in front of you.

I already checked that site but for some reason I only get a red x instead of the picture. Can someone save that pic and post it up on this thread for me? The manual I have is from a site I found when I googled seadoo manual...it shows chapter 14 as the wiring diagram but when you download the manual it stops at chapter 13??

the safety campaign is still active(and probably always will be) on the 96 fuel tanks and they will replace them free of charge, no questions asked, been this way for years but most people don't know about it.

I think this was part of a class action settlement. I don't really think there is a hazard but seadoo won't tell you anything just something that the fuel tank could crack and cause a fuel leak hazard but I've never seen a cracked one. Probably their fuel tank supplier had a bad quality control day and a few bad ones got out.

The filler nozzle on my tank has completely broken off from the rest of the tank...No telling what casued it since I dont know the original owner and it was that when the PO bought it form the original owner

I have seen half a dozen or so of those tanks crack in that spot. I had the dealer give me a new one with install on my 94XP years ago. I found a 96 SPX earlier this year with a failed epoxy attempt over a crack in that spot. That's asking for trouble.
