Ok

So after spending 3733930 hours on repairing a MPEM. I have to admit its hard to get too much info but this is what I have come up with and need people to tell me if my ideas are crazy or not

I have learned how to remove the potting mix, and I understand that 99% of the time a diode is to blame for the 5 amp fuse blowing. Here are my ideas

1) Can't I just take it to a circuit board repair shop or a computer shop to have them copy it and make a new one?

2) Is it possible to just run 2 mpem's on my boat, I figure that the neutral safety switch won't work. It makes no sense that 2 mpems for a 657x would be cheaper then one for a speedster

3) Also after repairing the diode , how do I reseal the board?

4) Since I don't really have an MPEM its more of just a fuseblock can I bypass it?

I have read so many horror stories and it's a shame that so many people are stranded due to this board and its cost. The hard part to swallow is the board has about 50 dollars worth of parts on it, and yet it is so expensive.

same thought...

I'm in process of doing exactly what you mentioned. I have 2-mpems, that i'm install'n inna 95 Speedster. Cant phathom to spend/customer 1200 buks, when these mpems from a 657x are 150 buks each. Granite, will take a some time, figuring the wires..etc to tach, which one will control the fuel/oil gauge, but at least, in future, if something is to happen to 1 of the mpems, that the system will still work, thus not leav'n you stranded, get'n towed in...

exactly, well Im gonna tackle it this weekend. I'll keep you posted on the progress. Outside looking in you would think one tach to each motor and pick one for the bilge, fuel and lights etc.

In a nut shell...lets see you have How many hours in playing around with the mpem? I make $85.00 per hour in my shop...Isn't it smarter just to buy a mpem for $1000.00 for the technology than spend a week playing around and losing money in the long run? That's like lets see 11.6 hrs.x $85.00= $1000.00, unless you only make $6.00 per hour...:ack::)

AWESOME...

yeah, since, electrical is nowhere near in my background/future..gonna rig it to the switch, unless the sensor works. Blower, lights..wtc, think i'll leave to switches.

well thats a project.

Does the MPEM controls engine timing. If it does then there is a chance that the timing program for the skis is different from for the boats. This might affect performance.

has anyone not found an electrical drawing of the MPEM? For what you guys are saying, there's nothing to it as far as complex circuitry and components...

As an electrical engineer, maybe I need to look into repairing these things as a side business..... :)

the mpem in the 95 speedster atleast is timed from the stator. Karl I hear what you are saying, the first thing I am gonna do is replace the diode and go from there. Plus being in canada that 1000 mpem turns into 1500 with exchange and shipping. I work hard for my money and to just throw 1500 bucks when I can spend some extra time and maybe if we figure out a way to do this for cheaper, will help alot of other people too. I have the step by step instructions for repairing the diode which is $4.83 at radio shack. Also 99% of the tips and tricks found here are from people who tried and tried and found a result. I think the lightbulb was invented that way too:rofl:
