mixing mineral and synthetic

Hi,
this may seem a dumb question but can you mix mineral and synthetic 2 stroke in the tank? I asked my local dealer and he said yes you can but he's just a salesman and I'm not so sure. I have a 1994 xp and he told me that this machine doesn't like synthetic oil and sea doo recommend mineral oil for it. This could be true as mineral oil was all that was available when the machine was new. Any one heard these comments before?

Yep, I'd just run the mineral in that ski. I'll assume you're using the Seadoo mineral oil. The 787 and 951 engines are what really need the syn oil.

I think he's asking if synthetic will result in damage or increased wear.

As others have said as long as it is the seadoo brand oil you can mix the full synthetic (yellow bottle) the semi-synthetic (black bottle) and the mineral (white bottle) with no issues at all.

The issue is if you mix two different brands they can gel in the tank and plug the oil injection system.

For your engine the mineral is required by seadoo as a minimum and is what your engine was designed for. The semi and full synthetic does offer better protection but not needed for yours. For my GTI with the 720 I run the semi-synthetic to save a little money and a little more protection than the mineral and the full synthetic for my 787 and 951. If I had mineral I would run that in the 720 with no reservations.

What's the real cost diff? The XPS-II is around $50/ gallon delivered to my house. At 3-4 gallons a season, I'd just run this. (I do in my 951s).

You can get mineral for about $30, so about $20 left over.

that makes sense now.....I have a RXdi I bought with a blown motor.....when I was cleaning the tanks I noticed the oil tank line when I took it loose the oil was plopping out like jelly. PO prob just put whatever oil was on sale in it.

Not a good idea to mix oils. The potential savings versus cost of a new engine and a lost weekend or summer why?

Looks like I'm draining my Tank cause I asked the question after I mixed the oils!!!

Thanks for all your posts guys. I'll drain the tank and start from scratch. Plenty of time another month before the season starts and I swap my Kilt for a wet suit here in Bonny Scotland.
