loss of power 2006 GTI

So back in 2006 I bought my 2006 GTI straight from the dealer. Now it only has 26 hours on it, and before this I have never had a problem with it. I took it out for a spin and it ran fine for about five minutes. It started losing power and speed. The GTI does not have a speedo, but the max rpms wide open are usually in the 7100-7500rpm range. I would only go up to about 6600 max and there was a lag between hitting the throttle and response from the engine. I am thinking it could be the wear ring.

The weirdest part about this is that it if i put it in reverse, the RPM's will go above 7,000, but forward there is a very noticable loss of power and a lag in response from the engine.

Thoughts? Advice? HELP!!!

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Are you saying that the motor revs up but you are not going fast?

If so, then it's a cavitation issue. Check your impeller and wear ring or your carbon seal (if you have one).

any other issues?

loss of speed is definitely an issue, but the motor itself is not reaching the top RPMs that it usually does when it is wide open. normally on smooth water the top RPMs are in the 7200-7600 range wide open and now the engine maxes out at 6300-6600 Rpms

Engine lag and loss of RMP is not a pump or cavitation issue. With pump and wear ring issues, you still get full RPM's. I would start simple and suspect a fuel or spark issue. Make sure you have good fuel. With 26 hours on a 6 year old machine, I'm betting you may have some bad gas. Get good clean fuel in there, change the fuel filter and throw in new plugs. I am betting you see a difference.

Did you bother to read his post? He is complaining of loss of RPM.

hes not reaching max RPMs id go plugs and fuel first.
